Molly Wollner is 2013 MWHS Athena Award Winner

Molly Wollner will represent MWHS at the 41st-annual Athena Awards Luncheon May 3.

Congratulations to Molly Wollner, the 2013 MWHS Athena Award winner. Candidates for this “outstanding female athlete” award must demonstrate excellence in individual or group sports.

Wollner will represent MWHS at the 41st-annual Athena Awards Luncheon, to be held May 3 in Minneapolis. She will be one of over 50 outstanding senior women to be honored from public and private high schools in the greater Minneapolis area.

Wollner is a three-sport athlete, participating in soccer, basketball and track during her high school career. In soccer, she is a four-year letter winner, earning three Spotlight on Scholarship awards, All Conference Honorable Mention one year, three-time Star Tribune metro Roll Call Top 15 Scorer and Best Offensive Player. She was also a captain her senior year.

She is a three-year member of the basketball team, earning two letters, three Spotlight on Scholarship Awards and the Whitehawk Award. She was named captain her senior year.

Wollner is a six-year letter winner in track and field. She was named All Conference three years, Rookie of the Year as a seventh-grader, and Team MVP as a sophomore. She was a section finalist two years and a member of the school record setting 4X200 meter relay as a freshman. She served as captain her senior year.

Wollner also participated in cross country, lettering as a seventh and eighth-grader. She was named Rookie of the Year, was a state participant and earned two Spotlight on Scholarship Awards.

In addition to sports, Wollner is a member of Link Crew and the Science Olympiad team. She also volunteers at Our Lady of the Lake Church.

“I am so excited and honored to be chosen by the coaches for this award,” said Wollner.

Next year, Wollner plans to attend the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire where she will major in pediatric nursing. She has also been invited to join the soccer team.

Molly is the daughter of Gary and Lori Wollner of Orono.
