Members of Mound Westonka's Class of 2014 Earn Prestigious Recognitions

Three Mound Westonka High School seniors have earned “Commended Student” recognition in the National Merit Scholarship Program.

Lily Frenette, Anna Pinault, and Katy Wetherille scored in the top five percent nationally, of the more than 1.5 million students who took the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test last year.

Frenette is co-captain of the speech team, stage manager for the musical, an AP Scholar and a member of NHS. She runs cross country and is passionate about painting and photography in her AP art class. She plans to attend a four-year college, hopefully in New York, to study writing. Lily is the daughter of Therese and Thomas Frenette.

Pinault is a full-time student at the University of Minnesota this year, studying politics, statistics, literature and dance. She is a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and NHS. She teaches Sunday school at her church and dance is her passion. She plans to study dance at a college in New York. Anna is the daughter of Deb and Dan Pinault.

Katy Wetherille is also a full-time student at the U of M this year, where she is studying computer science, calculus and Intro to Shakespeare. She is a member of the ski team and Science Olympiad. She plans to attend the University of Wisconsin Madison next year to study computer science. Katy is the daughter of Jo and Randy Wetherille.

"MWHS is honored to have, in addition to a Semi-finalist, three students whose academic prowess has earned them the ‘Commended Student’ recognition by the prestigious National Merit Scholarship Program,” said Principal Keith Randklev. “Lily, Anna, and Katy rank in the top 50,000 in the country, of the over 1.5 million students who took the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test in 2012. This wonderful accomplishment is indicative of their aptitude and their commitment to academic excellence. We are proud to have these three students represent our school district in such a manner!"

The three students will be recognized at a future "Share the Success" segment of an upcoming school board meeting.
