More than a dozen stop signs were defaced with Cargill stickers earlier this week.
Anti-Cargill stickers were placed on stop signs in several different areas of Wayzata over the weekend. A police officer on routine patrol around 1 a.m. Sunday, May 6, first noticed the stickers on stop signs, under the word "stop," at all four corners of East Wayzata Boulevard, Ferndale Road North, West Wayzata Boulevard and Ferndale Road South. The stickers were also found at the following locations and intersections: No suspect information is being released at this time, according to the Wayzata Police Department. Minnetonka police have been brought into the investigation because Cargill's headquarters is in their jurisdiction. An attempted burglary of a business on the 800 block of Lake Street was reported around noon April 29. The door to the business was damaged, but entry was not gained. A gas drive off resulting in a loss of $44 was reported April 28 just before 1 a.m. Police arrested a 36-year-old male from Long Lake just around 2 a.m. April 28 on the 1300 block of Wayzata Boulevard West after a vehicle was observed in the parking lot of a closed business. Two 20-year-old males from Plymouth were cited April 21 after police stopped their vehicle on the 200 block of Central Avenue. Officers could smell the strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, and cited one man with possession of a small amount of marijuana and the other for possession of paraphernalia. A Cadillac Escalade valued at $22,000 was stolen from the Auto Center Bargain Lot sometime between April 17 and April 20. The vehicle was recovered April 21 in Minneapolis with its hood and engine missing. A 2007 GMC Yukon Denali was stolen from the Auto Center Bargain Lot between April 17 and April 19. A person used their credit card at a business in the 1400 block of Wayzata Boulevard East and then realized it was missing. Someone later purchased items with the card in other cities. It was reported around 8:30 p.m. April 13. Two 14-year-old males were walking in the 1400 block of Wayzata Boulevard East at around 2:15 a.m. April 13. An officer warned them that they were violating curfew and contacted their parents. The Hennepin County Crime lab lifted fingerprints from the scene of an attempted burglary and positively matched them to an Elk River man.
Police are searching for a 33-year-old man from Elk River suspected of burglarizing a Wayzata apartment complex. An active arrest warrant has been issued for Christopher Wall after officers were unable to locate him at his only known address, according to the criminal complaint filed this week and signed by Investigator Mike Murphy of the Wayzata Police Department. Wayzata police were first dispatched to the Gleason Lake apartment complex at 4 a.m. back on May 25 of 2012 after an alarm was triggered. Review of security footage showed a white male in his late 20s pry open the building’s front door and enter a community room where a large, flat-screen television was mounted. Charges of domestic assault and disorderly conduct are pending against a 28-year-old male and a 29-year-old female, both from Minnetonka, following a March 31 altercation on Wayzata Boulevard East. A vehicle parked in a garage on the 400 block of Wayzaata Boulevard East was damaged March 31. A suspect has been identified, and investigation into the case continues. Felony fraud charges have been filed against two men accused of working together to use stolen credit cards to make more than $2,500 in unauthorized purchases at a Super America station in Long Lake. Investigation into the purchases began last year when Wayzata police were called by a loss prevention manager suspicious of several purchases made while 22-year-old Spencer Harriman of Minnetonka was working the store’s cash register. The loss prevention manager told officers that a total of 11 suspicious transactions had been identified during April 2012 and that a second man, identified in court documents as 31-year-old Anthony Lansing of Chaska, had been present during at least seven of the instances. The suspect forced entry through a garage service door and took items that they could carry with them. The burglary occurred between 5:45 p.m. on Feb. 27 and 10:45 a.m. on the 28th. 1) If you have an alarm system in your home, use it. 2) Lock your doors when you leave home. 3) Lock your doors when you go to bed at night. 4) Keep a protective eye out for your neighbors. 5) If you see something suspicious, report it immediately. A 28-year-old Shorewood man was charged with felony drug possession after police found a bag containing .2 grams of methamphetamine. Officers were at the man's residence on Grant Lorenz Road serving an arrest warrant Feb. 9, and a search found the drugs inside a pants pocket. Orono police arrested a 42-year-old man Jan. 30 for violating an order for protection filed in conjunction with a domestic abuse complaint. The arrest occurred around 10:45 p.m. on Lyric Avenue. A mailbox on the 400 block of Highcroft Road in Wayzata was damaged Feb. 9 after traffic cones were thrown at it.
