Wayzata Students Advance To State D.I. Tourney

Seven teams from the Wayzata Public School District advance to state Destination ImagiNation tournament.

After the completion of the Destination ImagiNation West Metro Regional Tournament in February, seven teams from Wayzata Public Schools will advance to compete at the State Destination Imagination tournament Saturday, April 14, at Jackson Middle School and Champlin Park High School. Overall, six teams earned first place awards and two of the teams earned the Renaissance Award for outstanding design engineering or performance. The Permanent Markers, fifth grade team from Oakwood Elementary and The 7 Oodle Noodles, fourth grade team from Oakwood Elementary, earned first place and Renaissance awards. Central M.S. Students Win State Quiz Bowl

Wayzata Central Middle School students took first place at the MN Quiz Bowl tournament.

Six eighth grade students from Wayzata Central Middle School competed and took first place in the Minnesota Academic Quiz Bowl March 10. The team is now qualified to compete in the national tournament in April. The students on the CMS Quiz Bowl team are: Derek Feriancek, Daniel Ibeling, Daniel Qu, David Mo, Rishav Desgupta and Michael Kai. The team is coached by Wayzata High School senior Duligur Ibeling. Wayzata Central To Perform A Classic Story

Wayzata Central Middle School students will perform "Beauty and the Beast Jr." March 16 and 17.

The classic story that has come to life on the big screen is coming to Wayzata Central Middle School. Central students will perform “Beauty and the Beast Jr.” 7 p.m. Friday, March 16, with two performances Saturday, March 17, at noon and 7 p.m. in the CMS auditorium. Tickets are on sale now and are $8 with reserved seating. Tickets are available to purchase in the CMS front office on school days between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tickets will also be available to purchase in the school store 7:35 a.m. to 8:20 a.m. March 14-16 and again from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. March 15-16 as well as one hour before each performance from the ticket booth in the auditorium foyer.

Wayzata Paraprofessionals Help With After School Program

The after-school program at Wayzata Central Middle School is because of support staff like paraprofessionals who help tutor students one-on-one.

Paraprofessionals, also known as educational assistants, make up a large part of today's public school education support staff. Patch is recognizing the work of paraprofessionals at local schools this week for Paraprofessional Recognition Week. Such work includes many support programs like the after-school program at Wayzata Central Middle School. "The success of our after-school program is due to the willingness of staff members – some of whom are paraprofessionals – to stay after school and help students who are in need of homework support," said Wayzata Central Middle School Principal Steve Root. Paraprofessionals like Joan McNutt, enjoy dedicating their time to one-on-one help for students in the school's media center for the program. …

VIDEO: Sixth Graders Add It Up For Charity

Wayzata Central Middle School sixth graders are honing their math skills and helping fill a local food shelf at Interfaith Outreach and Community Partners.

For the 14th consecutive year, Wayzata Central Middle School sixth grade math teachers Lisa Geinert, Dan Nielsen and Tanya Ravenholdt will have more than 300 of their students adding up discounts and tax at their school grocery store. This week students not only learned how to use math in a real world setting, but helped stock the food shelves for Interfaith Outreach and Community Partners in Plymouth. The nonprofit partnered with the school, giving them a list of items that are in demand for those in need.  Armed with their own shopping lists, students each had an individualized task of finding items that fit a specific sales tax and discount. The students collected what's on their list, calculated everything, wrote out a "check" for the …

Wayzata Lunchroom Harvest Event Sept. 24

Wayzata School District will provide samples of local, farm-fresh for elementary students and families at the Lunchroom Harvest event 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Wayzata Central Middle School in Plymouth.

Growing your own herbs, milking a cow, tasting some farm fresh fruits and vegetables, what could be better? These are all things elementary school students in the Wayzata School District get to do at the event called "A Lunchroom Harvest: Fresh and Local Tastes of Culinary Express," happening 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, in the lunchroom at Wayzata Central Middle School. According to a district press release, this event is designed to strengthen the connection between students and the people who grow or produce food for school lunches. “We are committed to providing our students with fresh, healthy lunches and it’s important to teach kids about what they’re eating,” said Mary Anderson, director of culinary express, nutrition …
