Another Scenario Proposed For Wayzata Elementary School Boundaries

Since the Nov. 26 School Board meeting another scenario has been put together for community feedback.

Based on community feedback from a Nov. 26 Wayzata School Board work session, another scenario called 7A is part of the consideration for changes to the district's elementary school boundaries. The process to make changes has been ongoing this fall with a number of board and staff meetings and public feedback forums. Scenario 7 was not well received by some district residents including a Spring Meadows neighborhood group. Theirs and others feedback prompted the School Board to respond and the district to look at Scenario 7 and now present Scenario 7A. Spring Meadows neighborhood is west of Vicksburg Lane, north of Schmidt Lake Road and south of County Road 47 or neighborhood 7 in the scenarios that have been presented. According to the …

POLL: Looking At Wayzata School Proposed Boundary Changes

What do you think about the proposed Wayzata elementary school boundary changes?

Much discussion on boundary changes has occupied the time of families in the Wayzata School District these days. Whether you are for or against one of the scenarios being proposed, see tweaks with proposals so far or think things don't need to be changed, many parents and community members have opinions on the topic. A Wayzata School Board work session Nov. 26 at Wayzata Central Middle School yielded a seventh scenario proposal and comments from a large number of parents and community members that gathered there. Parents with signs varying on themes of "Keep our School Local" "Greenwood Yes - Oakwood No," "We've Moved Once" and more could be seen at the Monday night meeting. Many of the sign holders were from one or more neighborhoods …

Mary Jo - unfortunately the board is in a box on this - no matter what they do, how they do it, someone's neighborhood is going to bused past 1, 2,3 or possibly 4 schools before they get to their school. The board has been denying the facts of growth in Northwest part of the district for too long, and has decided to "honor" the money spent and work of previous administrations and boards by …   more ›

Letter: Wayzata School District is 'Kicking the Can' Down the Road

One Plymouth resident gives his opinion on proposed boundary changes in the Wayzata School District.

To the Editor: Two weeks ago, I wrote in a letter to the editor of Plymouth MN Patch that the Wayzata School Board was in a box.  Well, the events of the last five days have done nothing but validate that point.  Let's recap: the school announced last spring that they would be redoing the elementary school boundaries in the Wayzata School District for the first time in six years. The board did what boards do and hired a consultant to facilitate the process (Teamworks International, who apparently makes a pretty good revenue stream from Wayzata and other districts). The process involved two initial public meetings at which the public could provide feedback on Scenarios 3 and 4 (apparently Scenarios 1 and 2 were so bad, the board killed them…

Wayzata School Board To Get Attendance Boundary Recommendations

The district continues to look at proposed changes to the elementary school attendance boundaries at a work session 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26.

Nearly a month after the public input meetings, the Wayzata School Board will discuss recommendations from input given and staff's work on proposed changes to the district's elementary attendance boundaries at an upcoming work session. The work session is at 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, in the auditorium of Wayzata Central Middle School. The presentation from district staff working on attendance boundary proposals and consultant Dennis Cheesebrow with Teamworks International will be followed by a chance for anyone from the public to ask questions and address concerns on the recommendations. Three public input meetings at Central Middle School at the end of October and beginning of November yielded hundreds of people in attendance and plenty of …

Tomorrow: Young Scientist Roundtable at Wayzata Central M.S.

University of MN professor Michael Walters will talk about the art and science of molecular construction.

A Young Scientist Roundtable is 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Wayzata Central Middle School. Dr. Michael Walters in the medicinal chemistry department at the University of Minnesota will present “From Urea to Lipitor: The Art and Science of Molecular Construction.” One of the founding events in the field of organic chemistry was Fredrich Wöhler's synthesis of urea in the early nineteenth century. The idea that urea could be made rather than isolated from the urine of an animal launched the imagination and the ability of scientists to synthesize a world of ingredients, technologies, products and medicines.  In creating "life" from something inanimate, the Wöhler Synthesis was an early step on the path to today's study of medicinal chemistry, …

Safer Crosswalk Now At Wayzata Central M.S.

New LED lights have replaced the crosswalk warning light at Wayzata Central Middle School.

The pedestrian crossing on Vicksburg Lane near Wayzata Central Middle School just got safer thanks to a generous donation from the Plymouth Community Foundation. The crosswalk warning light on Vicksburg Lane at Wayzata Central was replaced with a sign built with embedded LED lights that can be activated by pedestrians. Now brighter, the LED warning lights will blink when a pedestrian pushes the button to cross. Representatives from the foundation met with city of Plymouth staff last winter to express their desire to fund a project to enhance safety at a school in the city. Staff members from the city and the Wayzata School District were already exploring the possibility of installing a pedestrian-activated warning device for the crosswalk …
