What's Open, What's Closed on Veterans Day 2012

Veterans Day 2012 is Sunday, Nov. 11 so some businesses and government offices will be closed Monday. There will also be no mail today, and most banks will be closed, but school is in session for most kids.

Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2012 falls on a Sunday this year. That means some city offices, services and local businesses will be closed Sunday, while others will be closed Monday. Veteran Day "originated as 'Armistice Day' on Nov. 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I, according to the U.S. Census website. "Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed legislation in 1954 to change the name to Veterans Day as a way to honor those who served in all American wars." Details for Veteran's Day 2012 Ceremony in Wayzata

Lake Minnetonka Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host a Veteran's Day celebration in Wayzata Nov. 11.

The Lake Minnetonka Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is planning an event to honor all of our nation's veterans.  On Sunday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. the public is encouraged to come to Heritage Park in Wayzata for a short ceremony and to place a flag in the ground to honor the nation's veterans. The Lake Minnetonka Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will provide the flags and warm beverages will be served. To cover costs, donations will be accepted. "We hope to cover Heritage Park in flags in order to show that the Lake Minnetonka area is forever grateful to our servicemen and women," Jessica Powell, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, said.
