Wayzata-Based Empathic Clinical Suite Endorsed By Major Insurer

It's big news for Empathic, which has been working to establish itself as a startup going up against some very big and entrenched competition across the country.

Health care insurers seeking to hasten the behavioral health care community's move to electronic medical records (EMRs) are working more closely with companies such as Wayzata-based Empathic Clinical Suite, a leader in fully integrated, user-friendly EMR and clinical practice management systems for behavioral health therapists. “As the technology for producing, processing and securing EMRs evolves and matures, health insurers are ramping up their efforts to motivate more therapists to make the switch to fully integrated EMR claims processing systems now,” says Debra Lindell, founder and chief executive officer of Empathic Clinical Suite. As proof, she cites her own company's recent experience in being recognized as a “preferred provider” …

Go-Float Signs New Dealers to Sell Its Electric Boats

Based in Hopkins, Go-Float boats garnered their some of their first brand exposure on and around Lake Minnetonka.

Go-Float has signed four new U.S. dealers and one Israeli resort to sell the company’s electric boats, the company announced Wednesday. The additional dealers are part of growing success the company credits in part to this year’s boat shows. Prior to the shows, it introduced four new models for 2012 with prices below $5,000. Its production team has doubled in size and expects to quadruple in 2012. “Our boat show results have been better than expected. We are signing new dealers and those dealers report that they’ve sold boats within days of receiving their first shipment,” a news release quoted Steve Hendrickson, Go-Float’s general manager. “Our vision of electric boating is connecting with all types of people and we are thrilled to see …

Sharing Yoga with Excelsior

Two women share thoughts about their business and passion for yoga.

“A lot of people just need to relax,” said Patricia Sletten. Sletten is the studio manager of Spirit of the Lake Yoga and Wellness Center in Excelsior. Lisa Bergly owns it. Both women are yoga teachers and see many benefits to yoga—one being relaxation. “It’s a place to come and be restored,” Bergly said about her business. They purposely designed the interior space to be both beautiful and natural, and Sletten pointed out the wooden beams, bamboo flooring and even nearby Lake Minnetonka. They wanted a warm environment, and according to Bergly, people comment on the peace they feel upon entering the business. “It’s like a home away from home,” Sletten said. The two women began planning the center in April 2010. Opening day was Nov. 1, 2010…

Excelsior Jeweler Makes Rings Come True

Excelsior-based goldsmith has years of experience and shares what he likes about his job.

When Brian Walters was 16 he began working at the factory of a large jewelry company. The company determined that he had excellent hand-eye coordination skills and immediately tasked him with carrying out some of the finer details of making jewelry. Eventually he had learned all the steps of jewelry making. “It starts with an idea,” Walters said. The idea is followed by a model of the design, assembling the jewelry and finally completing the finishing touches. Walters opened his first shop about 25 years ago when business at his home began overflowing and taking over his house. Currently, BW Goldsmith “the Ring Maker” is located on Water Street in Excelsior. In the office portion of his business, customers can watch Walters do the fine …

'Blizzard' Season Is Around The Corner

The Ski & Snowboard School is ready for snow season coming soon.

When Jeff and Jennifer Lewin bought Blizzard Ski & Snowboard School in 2004, they knew they wanted to continue the tradition of the school that had served the area since 1958, but they also knew a key to their success would be continuing to develop partnerships with communities and retailers throughout their coverage area. A traveling ski and snowboard school, targeting K-12 age groups, Blizzard Ski & Snowboard School has Saturday and Sunday programs available for all levels, including parents. They visit many area ski areas including Afton Alps, Buck Hill, Mount Kato, Powder Ridge, Trollhaugen, Welch Village and Wild Mountain. "We represent 56 different suburbs in the Twin Cities," said Jennifer Lewin.  "We go from Shoreview to Eagan and …
