Orono P.D. Blotter: Motorcycle Accident, DWI and Suspicious Activity

The Orono Police Department issued 28 citations between April 28 and May 5—including six for speeding, eight for both no insurance and assorted moving violations and two for underage consumption of alcohol.

Below is a selection of notable incidents Orono police responded to since May 1. Not intended to be a comprehensive log of activity. May 5 A citation for underage consumption of alcohol was issued just after 10:30 p.m. near the intersection of Shadywood Road and West Lafayette Road. Theft from a rental building on the 4400 block of Denbigh Road was reported around 9:20 a.m. Loss is estimated to be less than $500. Police issued a citation for possession of drug paraphernalia just before 6 a.m. following a traffic stop near the intersection of Bartlett Boulevard and Westedge Boulevard. Criminal damage to property was reported around 1 a.m. on the 5500 block of Tonkawood Road. Loss is estimated to be less than $500. May 4 An animal at large …

Feb. 5 A motor vehicle accident occurring just after 6:30 a.m. on the 3800 block of Hwy. 12 resulted in unspecified property damage. Officers responded to a suicide threat on the 400 block of Shoreline Drive around 9:30 a.m. A motor vehicle accident on the 1000 block of Homestead Trail resulted in unspecified property damage around 9:30 a.m. Theft of property was reported on the 2100 block of Commerce Boulevard around 11:15 a.m. No further information is available. Lake Minnetonka Crime Notes: Meth, Mailbox 'Coning' and DUI Arrests

Notable incidents responded to by Lake Minnetonka area police in the last two weeks.

A 28-year-old Shorewood man was charged with felony drug possession after police found a bag containing .2 grams of methamphetamine. Officers were at the man's residence on Grant Lorenz Road serving an arrest warrant Feb. 9, and a search found the drugs inside a pants pocket. Orono police arrested a 42-year-old man Jan. 30 for violating an order for protection filed in conjunction with a domestic abuse complaint. The arrest occurred around 10:45 p.m. on Lyric Avenue. A mailbox on the 400 block of Highcroft Road in Wayzata was damaged Feb. 9 after traffic cones were thrown at it. Mound Man Arrested for Fifth DWI in 10 Months, Tries to Outrun Orono Cops

Police recognized David Anderson from a welfare check performed a few days prior, during which the criminal complaint says cops found him heavily intoxicated. Last week he tried to flee Orono police after a traffic stop on Shoreline Drive.

A 42-year-old Mound man was arrested last week and for the fifth time in less than a year has been charged with DUI. A motorist on Shoreline Drive called police just after 10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, to report that a vehicle was swerving and operating erratically. A nearby squad responded to the call and found a car driven by a man later identified as David Anderson parked near the intersection of Shoreline Drive and Spates Avenue. The criminal complaint against Anderson, signed by investigator Dan Niccum of the Orono Police Department, alleges officers immediately detected the strong odor of alcohol during initial conversations with Anderson. A 47-year-old man from Orono was arrested Sept. 25 for driving after suspension. The arrest took place just before 12:30 p.m. near the intersection of Ferndale Road and Shoreline Drive. Police responded to a report of an unwanted person on the 1900 block of Shoreline Drive around 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 25.
