Lake Minnetonka Boys Seize Swim and Dive Conference Title for Third Straight Year

The Orono Mound Westonka (OMW) co-op boys swim and dive earned the title of Wright County Conference Champs for the third year in a row, showing depth across all events.

For the third year, the Orono Mound Westonka (OMW) co-op boys swim and dive team earned the title of Wright County Conference Champs, showing depth across all events. Competing in Hutchinson on Feb. 9 with the top-12 finishers scoring in each event, the team earned 396 points to second place Hutchinson at 323.5, Dassel-Cokato/Litchfield’s 308 and Waterown-MayerWaconiaDelano’s 307.5. “This was a great meet,” said Mound Westonka High School senior captain Ryan Strother, who was sidelined due to an injury. “A lot of swimmers swam some of their best times which helped clinch a third conference victory." Lake Minnetonka Divers Shine at True Team State

Complementing the team's 8-2 overall record and 3-0 in conference, the Orono Mound Westonka co-op was the only team to have all four divers advance to finals at True Team State—with Tyler Jordahl placing first.

The Orono Mound Westonka (OMW) boys swim and dive team had a rigorous schedule last week—competing in three meets. They won two dual meets at home against Simley and Watertown-Mayer Waconia Delano to secure an 8-2 overall record and 3-0 in conference. On Saturday, Jan. 26, the team traveled to the University of Minnesota for the Class A Boys True Team State. “The last three meets have exceeded all of my expectations,” said Mound Westonka High School senior captain Merv Moorhead. “We made it to True Team for the first time ever and everyone performed to the best of their ability.” True Team State The OMW divers competed brilliantly at True Team State as the only team to have four divers advance to finals. Orono Mound Westonka Boys Swim and Dive Improves to 2-0 in Conference

OMW turned in five first place finishes in swim events and clinched the top-three spots in diving.

With a decisive 107-79 win against Wright Conference rival Hutchinson on Jan. 10, the Orono Mound Westonka (OMW) co-op boys swim and dive team is 2-0 in the conference and 5-1 overall. OMW turned in five first place finishes in swim events and clinched the top three spots in diving. “This was a good dual meet for us,” said Mound Westonka senior captain Ryan Strother. “Our training over winter break helped quite a bit and we are looking forward to competing as a team for the rest of season.” The meet got underway with a touch-out by OMW’s 200-yard medley relay team with Mound Westonka’s senior captain Merv Moorhead, senior Damian Urwyler, Strother and Orono senior captain Miller to win with 1:45.18. OMW Boys Swim and Dive Takes Third at Simley Invite

Orono Mound Westonka claimed first place finishes in diving, the 50 yard Freestyle and the 100 yard Butterfly with second place finishes in two of the three relay events.

The Orono Mound Westonka (OMW) co-op boys swim and dive team returned from the Simley Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 5, with the third-place trophy tallying 432 points following Simely’s 480 points and St. Paul Central’s 519. OMW claimed first place finishes in diving, the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. The team notched second-place finishes in two of the three relay events. “The meet went really well,” said Orono senior captain Mitchell Miller. “Everyone on the team is working hard in practice and it’s showing in our meets so far this season.” OMW current dual meet standing is 3-1. Orono Mound Westonka Boys Swim and Dive Continues Strong Season

With a third of the regular season behind them, Mound Westonka seniors Tyler Jordahl and Ryan Strother are undefeated in their signature events.

In two Class AA dual meets before winter break, the Orono Mound Westonka (OMW) co-op boys swim and dive team split with a loss to St. Michael Albertville 96-85 on Dec. 18 and then two days later won decisively against Cambridge Isanti 100-81. Strong individual performances were evident in both meets. With a third of the regular season behind them, two team members are undefeated in their signature events.
