Westonka Girls Top Holy Family, Stay Undefeated
Tuesday night's 5-2 victory at the Mound arena continues perfect season.
The Westonka High School girl’s hockey team opened conference play with a win against Holy Family-Waconia at Thaler Ice arena on Dec. 6. Holy Family came out strong against No. 5 ranked Westonka and outshot the Whitehawks 5-0 early in the game. Senior goaltender Samantha Scobee continually shutdown the Wildfire and gave the Whitehawks time to regain their skating legs. Midway through the first period, the Whitehawks broke into the scoring column when Abby Brustad found a rebound off Kia Johnson’s shot and put the puck in the back of the net. Play continued to be dominated in the home team’s zone, and the Whitehawks had difficulty getting the puck past center ice. Lake Minnetonka Hockey: A Tradition Of Excellence Continues
The Lake Conference hockey programs are known for their depth, talent and tradition. It's a fellowship each school appreciates year in and year out.
Last year’s Class AA state hockey tournaments were a clean sweep for the Lake Conference. The Eden Prairie boys team won the state championship, and on the girls side Minnetonka edged Edina for the title. It’s a trend within the conference for both boys and girls. Last year alone the Lake—comprised of Edina, Wayzata, Eden Prairie, Hopkins and Minnetonka—had six NHL draft picks, seven total Mr. and Ms. Hockey finalists and four state tournament participants. The Trojans had two of those draft picks.
