For the third year, the Orono Mound Westonka (OMW) co-op boys swim and dive team earned the title of Wright County Conference Champs, showing depth across all events. Competing in Hutchinson on Feb. 9 with the top-12 finishers scoring in each event, the team earned 396 points to second place Hutchinson at 323.5, Dassel-Cokato/Litchfield’s 308 and Waterown-MayerWaconiaDelano’s 307.5. “This was a great meet,” said Mound Westonka High School senior captain Ryan Strother, who was sidelined due to an injury. “A lot of swimmers swam some of their best times which helped clinch a third conference victory." Complementing the team's 8-2 overall record and 3-0 in conference, the Orono Mound Westonka co-op was the only team to have all four divers advance to finals at True Team State—with Tyler Jordahl placing first.
The Orono Mound Westonka (OMW) boys swim and dive team had a rigorous schedule last week—competing in three meets. They won two dual meets at home against Simley and Watertown-Mayer Waconia Delano to secure an 8-2 overall record and 3-0 in conference. With a decisive 107-79 win against Wright Conference rival Hutchinson on Jan. 10, the Orono Mound Westonka (OMW) co-op boys swim and dive team is 2-0 in the conference and 5-1 overall. Orono Mound Westonka claimed first place finishes in diving, the 50 yard Freestyle and the 100 yard Butterfly with second place finishes in two of the three relay events.
The Orono Mound Westonka (OMW) co-op boys swim and dive team returned from the Simley Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 5, with the third-place trophy tallying 432 points following Simely’s 480 points and St. Paul Central’s 519. OMW claimed first place finishes in diving, the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly. The Orono Mound Westonka (OMW) co-op boys swim and cive team is off to an impressive start this season. The 31-member squad was ranked No. 4 among Class A teams by the Minnesota Swim Coaches Association for the week of Dec. 17. Their season began Dec. 8 by winning the Wright County Jamboree Relay with 214.85 points to second place Dassel-Cokato/Litchfield’s (DCL) 117 point tally. A week later the team topped DCL again at the conference dual meet with a final score of 110 to 72. The Mound Westonka-Holy Family swim and dive team competed in the Wright County Conference Campionship Meet at Hutchinson on Oct. 27. Hoping for a perfect ending to an undefeated season, the girls were out-scored by Hutchinson. The Tigers, still stunned by their only loss at the hands of the White Hawks on Sept. 6, out-swam the rest of the conference to finish first with 548 points. The White Hawks came in second, with a score of 470. Dassel-Cokato was a distant third at 313. "We went into the meet aggressive and finished better than we were seeded in a lot of events. The meeting will take place in the media center located on the north side of the building.
