Erik Paulsen: CISPA Is about Fighting Cyber Attacks, 'Not Surveillance'

The congressman responded to a constituent comment about the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act.

U.S. Rep. Paulsen responded to a consitutuent message about legislation to fight cyber attacks: "Please vote against CISPA, the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act. We certainly do not need another government program to illegally spy on United States citizens and invade our privacy." Paulsen said in his answer that CISPA "has nothing to do with surveillance in any way." See the full question and answer in the first YouTube clip or at YouTube.com. Predicted Bombers' Capture Also in his April 18 Correspondence Corner video, Paulsen vowed that the Boston Marathon bombers would be caught: "I do know that local, state and federal law enforcement will catch the individuals responsible for this act and bring those individuals to justice…

@ Mike B There will always be those people who will look the other way while their rights are voted away by their elected representatives, either out of stupidity or blind allegiance. Now I have no love Ellison. But as a Minneapolitan living in CD5, I count on people like Paulsen and others to protect my rights from the Democrat onslaught to take them away. So I am very disappointed the Rep. …   more ›

Third District Report: Paulsen Makes Case for Repealing Medical-Device Tax

The Congressman appeared on the Hugh Hewitt radio show and on the opinion pages of the Washington Post.

U.S. Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-MN) took his fight to repeal a new federal tax on medical devices to the national airwaves and the opinion page of a newspaper with a national readership last week.  See photos and social-media posts related to Paulsen and the Third Congressional District in the Storify above (use the scroll bar to the right of the window) or at Storify.com. Hugh Hewitt Interview Paulsen, who represents Minnesota's Third Congressional District, told syndicated radio host Hugh Hewitt that Minnesota has 400 medical-device companies—including 200 medical-device firms in the Third Congressional District, which includes all or parts of Maple Grove, Edina, Eden Prairie, Plymouth, and Minnetonka and other Lake Minnetonka cities, among …

Paulsen Post: Update on Medical Device Repeal and Health Savings Account Flexibility

"For over two months, Minnesota medical device innovators have had to pay bi-monthly installments of a new $30 billion tax on their sales (not profit)."

by U.S. Congressman Erik Paulsen This week, I joined the Hugh Hewitt radio show to discuss the importance of repealing the medical device tax.  For over two months, Minnesota medical device innovators have had to pay bi-monthly installments of a new $30 billion tax on their sales (not profit). That means more layoffs and cutbacks in R&D investment as these dynamic job creators are forced to prioritize paying the tax above employing talented workers and investing in new technologies and treatments. This new tax threatens many of the 400 Minnesota device innovators who provide jobs for 35,000 of our neighbors, friends, and family members.  Listen to my radio interview HERE In my latest Erik’s Correspondence Corner, I answered a question from…

Paulsen Post: Medical Device Tax Repeal Gathering Broad Support

Congressman Erik Paulsen says 181 federal lawmakers have pledged support to a bill that would repeal "innovation" tax.

Last week, I spent a lot of time in Minnesota visiting schools, small businesses, and hosting roundtables with local law enforcement and medical device innovators. I also had great participation in a telephone town hall meeting and several Congress on Your Corner events, which are more intimate one-on-one town hall style opportunities to hear directly from you. Thanks to everyone that participated; your feedback ensures I am able to represent you more effectively. And this week in Washington, I was busy rolling out my renewed effort to stop the medical device tax that is negatively affecting Minnesota's economy and stifling job creation. The new tax started in January, resulting in thousands of layoffs and less innovation, which means …

Congressman Paulsen Talks Gun Control, John Kerry and 'Fiscal Sanity'

Thursday's "Congress on Your Corner" event gave constituents a chance to speak with the Third District congressman about a wide range of issues.

Congressman Erik Paulsen hosted a “Congress on Your Corner” event at the Cub Foods in Chanhassan yesterday, where he spoke with about a dozen constituents from throughout the Third District about a broad range of federal issues. Kevin Crystal from Chanhassan came to speak with Paulsen about proposed gun control legislation, and to voice his opposition to any restriction of Second Amendments rights. “I told him I’m against gun control and encouraged him to vote against it, because it’s not effective,” Crystal said. Proposed gun control being advocated by President Barack Obama was a common thread among the conversations Paulsen had Thursday, and the third-term Republican congressman said he was unconvinced that further restricting gun laws …

As always, please let me know whenever I can be of assistance and keep in touch. Focusing on Education Students are back in school and over the past few weeks I've visited many classrooms around the district. I've had the chance to: All these bright students came ready with insightful and interesting questions! Recently, I also had the chance to speak about the importance of education at an event hosted by the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce. It’s encouraging to see our state’s job creators partnering with their communities and organizations on innovative education programs to …

Congressman Paulsen on Nation's Ballooning Debt and Medical Device Tax

Patch accepts and posts all op/ed submissions and relevant news releases submitted by elected officials and candidates for public office

by U.S. Congressman Erik Paulsen U.S. National Debt Balloons Past $16,000,000,000,000 This past Tuesday, our country marked an infamous day as our national debt grew past 16 trillion dollars. To put that into perspective that burden equates to more than $50,000 for each and every Minnesotan. We now have a debt that is larger than our entire nation’s GDP. This debt is not only a burden placed on our children and grandchildren, but it also continues to dampen the prospects of the economic recovery we should have seen long ago. To tackle our debt in a meaningful way and put our economy on the path towards sustainable growth, I will continue working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to control spending and enact tax reform that …

Paulsen Post: 9/11, School Bill and Medical Device Tax

Congressman Erik Paulsen is back in Washington following Congress' summer recess.

by Congressman Erik Paulsen Students are back in school, and Congress is back in session. I will refrain from making any wise-cracks about who is smarter. Speaking of school, a bipartisan schools bill passed this week and the details are below with additional updates from our nation's Capitol. Let me know whenever I can be of assistance and keep in touch. Remembering 9/11 All of us remember exactly where we were on that fall morning in 2001. And after a decade the wave of emotion and support continues to sustain those affected by the senseless acts of violence in New York City, The Pentagon and in Western Pennsylvania. I spent the 10th anniversary of 9/11 remembering the loved and lost at a memorial service in Mound. Although the world has…
