Meet the Latest Lord Fletcher's Feature Teacher: Jenny Hofstad

Hofstad is a second-grade teacher at Hilltop Primary School. She graduated from Jamestown College in North Dakota and subsequently earned her Masters’ degree from St. Mary’s University in Winona.

She graduated from Jamestown College in North Dakota and subsequently earned her Masters’ degree from St. Mary’s University in Winona. Hofstad has spent 20 years in the Westonka District, teaching kindergarten, fourth-grade and Adventure Club in addition to second-grade. Prior to coming to Westonka, she did her student teaching at Sunset Hills and Plymouth Creek in Wayzata. Meet Westonka's February 2013 Feature Teacher: Kay Ostman Saxvik

As a sixth-grader teacher at Grandview Middle School, Ostman Saxvik has taught science, math, reading, English and social studies.

Ostman Saxvik, a sixth-grader teacher at Grandview Middle School, has spent her entire 21-year teaching career in the Westonka Schools. She graduated with an Elementary Ed and Special Ed Degree from St. Cloud University and subsequently earned her Masters in Teaching and Learning from St. Mary’s University in Winona. As a sixth-grader teacher, Ostman Saxvik has taught science, math, reading, English and social studies. Meet Westonka's January Feature Teacher: Jodie Rasicot

Jodie Rasicot has taught kindergarten at Shirley Hills for four years. This spring she will start her Masters Program from Concordia University.

By Lorrie Ham Jodie Rasicot, a kindergarten teacher at Shirley Hills Primary School, has been named the Lord Fletcher’s December Feature Teacher. Raiscot graduated with a BA in Business from the University of Iowa. She worked for the A.C. Nielson Company in Chicago right out of college. Then she settled in Mound where she raised her daughter, Jamie.   “I’m very proud of the education Jamie got here at Mound Westonka,” said Raiscot.   While Jamie, now a student at Mankato State, was at Grandview Middle School, Raiscot started substitute teaching. She decided to go back to school and get her teaching degree from Crown College. While going to school, Raiscot worked at Grandview as a paraprofessional in Mr. Rodelius and Mrs. Bonier’s …

Meet Westonka's November Feature Teacher: Beth Harstad

by Lorrie Ham The Westonka School District’s Feature Teacher for November is Beth Harstad, a fourth-grade teacher at Hilltop Primary School. Harstad has spent her entire 26-year teaching career in the Westonka District, where she has taught the first, second and fourth grades. Harstad earned her Bachelor’s degree from Mankato State University and her Master’s from the University of Minnesota. Outside of the classroom, Harstad has coached girls basketball and served on every Hilltop Committee and Curriculum Lead at least once, including Student Council, Shared Decisions and SIT. Harstad has co-chaired Wolf Ridge for the past 15 years and has attended the annual spring trip for over 20 years. She also taught and currently teaches Community …

by Lorrie Ham The Westonka School District’s "Feature Teacher" for October is Ali LaLonde, a special education teacher at Grandview Middle School. LaLonde has taught in the Westonka District for nine years, following five years teaching in the Cochrane-Fountain City School District in Wisconsin. She currently teaches small group language arts, small group math, seventh-grade co-taught language arts and students with cognitive disabilities. LaLonde earned her Bachelor’s degree from Winona State University, where she studied Elementary Education 1-6, Developmental Cognitive Disabilities K-12 and Learning Disabilities K-12. Meet Westonka's First Feature Teacher of 2012-13 School Year

Sue Simonson received Google Apps for Education Individual Certification the past two years and received the 2008 TIES Exceptional Teacher Award.

By Lorrie Ham The first Feature Teacher of the new school year is Sue Simonson, a business education teacher at Mound Westonka High School and the district's technology integrationist. Simonson has taught in the Westonka District for eight years, following one year teaching in the Robbinsdale School District and three years teaching in Iowa City, IA. This year, Simonson teaches computer science, game programming, accounting and 21st century technology, and in the past taught accounting II, web design and advanced game programming. She now splits her time between teaching and working as the district’s technology integrationist. A former American Idol contestent came to Lake Minnetonka yesterday for a free outdoor concert at Lord Fletcher's Old Lake Lodge. Haley Reinhart, who placed third in season No. 10 of American Idol, was the latest guest of Brian Oake and Cities 97's popular "Oake on the Water" summer concert series. The 21-year-old sang about four tracks during her approximate 15 minutes on stage. Reinhart's last performance on American Idol came back in January in front of judges Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez. Scotty McCreery eventually won Season 10 of the popular primetime reality show. Yesterday was the seventh time "Oake on the Water" has visited Lake Minnetonka this summer, where it began 10 years ago. The traveling …

Missy Higgens Comes to Maynard's Today for Oake on the Water

Popular singer comes to Excelsior for summer concert in advance of her world tour and the release of her new album.

Australian singer Missy Higgins will be in Excelsior today for the latest installment of Cities 97's Oake on the Water summer concert series. Her new album, "The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle," drops in the U.S. next week. It has already hit shelves overseas and has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from critics and fans alike. Higgins is set to launch a world tour in support of the album, and several dates have already sold out. She will play the Target Center in Minneapolis Aug. 26. The tour doesn't officially start until next week, with shows in New York and Los Angeles. Oake on the Water is celebrating it 10th year of lakeside concerts.
