A Long Lake woman is accused of breaking into a Hopkins home and destroying pictures of a woman who had dated the same man as her, according to court documents released Tuesday. Several witness told police that they saw a woman drive up to the 16th Avenue North home April 27 in a black SUV, break a window with a hammer, kick down a door and enter the residence, Detective Renee Meuwissen wrote in the criminal complaint. When officers went inside, they found that several picture frames had been broken and pictures were torn up on the kitchen table. The bill would change the way Minnesota calculates LGA but won't start money flowing into most Lake Minnetonka city coffers.
Years without getting local government aid will stay that way for Lake Minnetonka cities. Other Minnesota cities could see payments balloon under a new proposal that would inject tens of millions of dollars into the system and change the way those millions are distributed. A bill by state Rep. Ben Lien of Moorhead (DFL-4A) would add $80 million to the $426 million that the state is scheduled to spend on local government aid (LGA) in 2014. One Lake Minnetonka city would get LGA money only under the Lien plan: Mound gets nothing under current law or under the Dayton plan, but it would get more than $300,000 in 2014 local government aid under Lien's bill. Fire broke out Friday afternoon inside the locomotive of a Burlington Northern Santa Fe train pulling at least one car containing hazardous material. The train was near Minnesota Highway 12 and the Brown Road overpass when reports of fire first began coming in just after 3:30 p.m. Friday. Thick, black smoke could be seen billowing from the area for miles. Any chemical or combustible material …

Local residents looking for a dynamic selection of all-natural and organically grown foods need look no further than the intersection of Willow Drive and Wayzata Boulevard in Long Lake—home to Harvest Moon. Harvest Moon became the only grocery store in Long Lake and Orono after opening its doors last June, filling a long-standing need within the community. Harvest Moon is a cooperative owned by about 1,100 members of the community who purchase shares in the store. Stake holders elect a board of directors that oversees the operation’s finances and administration. That includes the hiring and oversight of store manager David Giedd. Giedd says Harvest Moon has sparked local interest in natural foods—along with the sales to back up the …
