Thursday luncheon is open to the public and will feature the Gophers' head football coach as guest speaker.
On Thursday May 23, the Greater Wayzata Area Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a luncheon at the Wayzata Country Club featuring Jerry Kill, head football coach for the Minnesota Gophers. The luncheon begins at noon and is expected to wrap up by 1:30 p.m. Jerry Kill was named head coach of the University of Minnesota football program on December 7, 2010. The Gophers were 3-9 in Kill's first season at the helm in Minnesota. The Gophers finished the 2011 season on a positive note, retaining Floyd of Rosedale with a rivalry game victory over Big Ten foe Iowa and a season-ending Big Ten win over Illinois. Paint is still drying and boxes waiting to be unpacked line the walls, but the Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Chamber of Commerce has officially moved into its new headquarters on Water Street. Flanked by Licks Unlimited on the left and Beacon Bank on the right, the chamber's new building will also house operations for the Minnehaha Steamboat and Excelsior Street Car. Visitors and wandering tourists will be greeted by a desk stocked with information about city events, volunteer opportunities and other odds and ends. The Excelsior–Lake Minnetonka Chamber of Commerce community gathered last week to celebrate and honor five finalists for the 2013 Person of the Year. The group of finalists included: Myra Wang was announced as the 2013 at the party, and she was presented with a beloved custom caricature by local artist, Al Tollefson. Al has been illustrating the Person of the Year posters for many years, and this tradition is welcomed back by the community. Debbie Hart was traveling on County Road 10 near Watertown yesterday morning when the accident occurred.
A well-known Excelsior resident was killed Tuesday morning in a car accident near Watertown. Debbie Hart was traveling on County Road 10 just before 11:45 a.m. when the Carver County Sheriff’s Office says her vehicle was involved in a head-on collision. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Sergeant Lance Pearce said Hart was traveling alone in her four-door sedan and road conditions were degraded due to sleet at the time of the crash, which involved two vehicles and closed Hwy. 10 for more than an hour. Segeant Pearce was unsure whether Hart was wearing her seat belt but said alcohol or other intoxicants were not believed to have been a factor.
