Wayzata Chilly Open Draws More than 1,000 Spectators

A frozen Lake Minnetonka served as a golf course for Saturday's 29th Annual Chilly Open on Wayzata Bay.

More than 900 golfers and about 1,000 spectators took to the frozen waters of Lake Minnetonka over the weekend for the 29th Annual Wayzata Chilly Open. Hosted by the Greater Wayzata Area Chamber of Commerce, the 2013 Chilly Open featured a "the 80s are back" theme. Golfers wearing zany gear had a chance to navigate one of two nine-hole courses using clubs, hockey sticks or any other contraption they can to sink a tennis ball on Wayzata Bay. After hitting the frozen links, golfers warmed up with some of the best chilli in Minnesota. Minnesota Vikings linebacker Chad Greenway joined Wayzata Mayor Ken Willcox to judge the "best of" chilli contest. What You Need to Know About This Weekend's Annual Chilly Open Golf Tournament in Wayzata

Golfers wearing zany gear will have a chance to navigate one of two nine-hole courses using clubs, hockey sticks or any other contraption they can to sink a tennis ball on Wayzata Bay.

The Greater Wayzata Area Chamber of Commerce will once again host the annual "Chilly Open" on Lake Minnetonka this Saturday. About 1,000 golfers from throughout the region are exptected to be in Wayzata for the Feb. 9 tournament, which this year will feature a "the 80s are back" theme. This is the 29th year Wayzata has hosted the Chilly Open, which has grown to be one of Lake Minnetonka's most popular winter events. Try Your Hand at Snow Sculpting During Arctic Fever 2013

Work begins this week on sculptures that will be judged by those attending this weekend's Arctic Fever 2013.

Ever snow sculpted before? It doesn’t matter either way! Anyone can do it, so give it a try in Badger Park for Arctic Fever 2013. Individuals and groups are invited to reserve a snow cube and try their hand at snow sculpting. The event is free. Teams can begin their sculpture the weekend of Jan. 12 and work all week. Lights will be on in the field at night until 10 p.m. for team work. Sculptures must be completed by Friday,  Jan. 18. Attendees of the Arctic Fever skating and pizza event Friday night at Southshore Center, 5735 Country Club Road, Shorewood, will vote on the best sculpture.
