St. Paul, the closest spot to the Lake Minnetonka area in the agency’s report, had an average temperature of 50.8 degrees in 2012—the warmest ever for that location.
If you thought you bundled up a little less last year, it wasn’t in your imagination. 2012 was the warmest year on record for the contiguous United States and Minnesotans were not exempt from the heat wave, according to a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) report released Tuesday. St. Paul—the closest location to Lake Minnetonka included in the NOAA report—recorded an average temperature of 50.8 degrees in 2012. That’s the warmest in the 74-year record for that location and 4.6 degrees more than the 1981-to-2010 average. The record temperatures, coupled with persistent drought conditions, combined to help drop Lake Minnetonka's water level to some of the lowest in history last fall. Measurements recorded Oct. 17 …

State calls drought situation "dire" going into the 2013 growing season; lack of precipitation has led to a sharp drop in lake and stream levels throughout Minnesota.
Drought conditions that have gone from moderate to severe in recent weeks have led to Lake Minnetonka's water level dropping to the lowest of 2012. The most recent measurements, recorded Oct. 17, indicate Lake Minnetonka's water level is 927.74 feet above sea level—down more than a foot since the beginning of August and more than 18 inches off the summer's peak. Lake Minnetonka is the headwaters of the Minnehaha Creek Watershed, which includes eight major creeks, 129 lakes, thousands of wetlands and stretches to the Minnehaha Falls in Minneapolis. The watershed ultimately drains into the Mississippi River. This week the Minnehaha Falls have been reduced to a trickle, and creeks throughout the watershed have seen sharp drops in water levels…

As Lake Minnetonka returns to normal water levels, Minnehaha Creek Watershed District doubles dam discharge.
Recent rains have caused Lake Minnetonka's water level to rise about 1.5 inches in the last 72 hours. On Monday the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District (MCWD) increased discharge of Grays Bay Dam from 20 feet per cubic system to 50 cubic feet per second. The lake level stood at 929.29 feet as of Monday morning, a tick below the 929.4 feet typically seen at this time of year. A dry early spring caused Lake Minnetonka to fall below 928 feet back in April, prompting the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District to take the unusual step of issuing a low water declaration. The resolution authorized temporary dock extensions for lakeshore property owners. The declaration was cancelled late last week, but temporary and legally-permitted dock length …

Lake Minnetoka Conservation District is opening up application process for dock extensions.
When Lake levels fall below 928.0 feet, the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District (LMCD) Board of Directors may approve a resolution that allows for temporary dock length extensions for licensed (multiple dock facilities) and unlicensed (primarily residential) sites on Lake Minnetonka. The LMCD Board of Directors has been considering this matter based on water level readings provided by the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District since mid-March, as well as projected precipitation. Based on those findings, a resolution was adopted on Wednesday declaring “low water” on Lake Minnetonka. This resolution authorizes temporary dock extensions per LMCD code. The permitting forms defining and authorizing the placement of the temporary dock …
