Auditions for Once Upon a Mattress are open to all student actors currently in grades six through 12 (2012-2013 school year).
Wayzata-based Blue Water Theatre Company has announced auditions for their upcoming production of the beloved classic musical Once Upon a Mattress. A somewhat snarky retelling of Hans Christian Anderson's The Princess and the Pea, Once Upon a Mattress is an ensemble show with dozens of entertaining roles and gigantic fun for actors and audience members alike. Auditions for Once Upon a Mattress are open to all student actors currently in grades six through 12 (2012-2013 school year). Auditions are scheduled to take place at the following times: Actors interested in auditioning need only to show up at one of the sessions. "How Do You Write a Joe Schermann Song" was completely funded by a Kickstarter campaign, and is being screened in several cities throughout the US. The soundtrack is currently available on iTunes.
There is a screening of an award-winning independent film at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April, 11, at the Southdale AMC theaters that has a strong local connection. Joe Schermann, a 2003 graduate of Wayzata High School, not only stars in the film, but is also the composer/lyricist for this musical. To blur the lines a bit, the title of the show is "How Do You Write a Joe Schermann Song," and Schermann plays the part of a starving musician living in New York City called "Joe Schermann." The film was completely funded by a Kickstarter campaign, and is being screened in several cities throughout the US. The soundtrack is currently available on iTunes. Four dad/daughter duos from the Minnetonka and Excelsior area are among those participating in this weekend's Chanhassan performances of "The Music Man" by Chaska Family Valley Theatre.
Paul Twite and his 11-year-old daughter Rebecca joined the Chaska Valley Family Theatre this year to spend more time together. Ever since, the Minnetonka duo have been working behind the scenes to digitally capture all the components that go into the making of a production—as well as cast promotional shots. “My dad is great, and he even lets me take some of the pictures,” said Rebecca, who is also in the cast. “This has been a tremendous way for me to share my passion and to spend quality time with my daughter,” said Paul. Paul and Rebecca are one of four father/daughter partners participating in the Chaska Family Theatre’s current production of “The Music Man”—which includes a total of 19 families from throughout the surrounding area. …

Wayzata-based Blue Water Theatre Company will present "The Secret Garden" at The Southern Theater in Minneapolis on Feb. 7, 8 and 9 at 7 p.m. and on Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. Based on the classic children's book by Frances Hodgson Burnett, "The Secret Garden" features music by Lucy Simon and book and lyrics by Marsha Norman. The original Broadway production premiered in 1991, and ran for over 700 performances. It won three Tony Awards, including Best Book of a Musical, and was nominated for four others, including Best Musical. Hennepin Theatre Trust announced this week that 56 schools will participate in the 2012-13 SpotLight Musical Theatre Program, including two schools in the Lake Minnetonka area. Now in its eighth year, SpotLight is the trust’s flagship education initiative which honors, supports, provides training and advocates for Minnesota high school musical theatre students and programs. Performances by students from both Mound Westonka High School (My Fair Lady) and Wayzata High School (The Sound of Music) will be part of this year's SpotLight Musical Theatre Program, which celebrates high school musicals and students by recognizing extraordinary achievements and helping to develop young talent in Minnesota’s high school musical theatre programs. …

Blue Water Theatre Company of Wayzata will be presenting the musical comedy “Guys and Dolls” at Wayzata Central Middle School on July 26, 27 and 28 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $11 for students/seniors and $14 for adults and will be available at the door prior to each performance.
