The Minnesota Scholastic Art Awards are a statewide regional affiliation of the National Scholastic Art Awards program, recognizing many of the state’s most creative teenagers.
by Lorrie Ham Once again, Mound Westonka High School was well represented at the Minnesota Scholastic Art Awards. For the second year in a row, two MWHS artists earned individual Gold Key Awards for artistic excellence. Two students also earned Silver Keys, and two received Honorable Mention recognition. The Minnesota Scholastic Art Awards are a statewide regional affiliation of the National Scholastic Art Awards program, recognizing many of the state’s most creative teenagers. The competition is open to all Minnesota students grades 7-12. This year, 1,849 individual works of art and 164 portfolios were submitted by schools around the state, which was up 500 from 2012. The jury awarded 183 Gold Keys for individual entries this year. …

The Greater Wayzata Area Chamber of Commerce and TCF Bank celebrates summer and art lovers across the Twin Cities this weekend during the 9th Annual Wayzata Art Experience. After last year’s severe weather, and tornado hitting in Northeast Minneapolis, the show was closed early. But, the Wayzata Art Experience is excited for all things new. First, there are new dates. This year's high-quality, juried art show runs Saturday, June 23, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, June 24, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lake Street in downtown Wayzata will showcase its charm, transforming into a sophisticated gallery with an ambiance glowing with the finest visual, culinary and performance art in the region. Vendors and visitors from throughout the Lake Minnetonka area and surrounding region gathered in Excelsior over the weekend for the city's two-day Art on the Lake festival. Featuring 200 local, regional and national juried artists on the shores of Lake Minnetonka, the annual Art on the Lake event also included kids art activities, live music both afternoons and 17 food vendors.
