If the girl's have it their way, they will sleep outside on their backyard deck through Christmas Eve—45 nights in all. Why? It's all to raise money and awareness for the fight against homelessness and hunger in Minnesota. Click here to donate to the Seawald sisters. "There are so many people and families out there that do not have the basics in life like food, shelter and clothing," Carrie said. "It broke my kids', and my own, hearts to even think of this, and this is why my kids said that they just had to do something to help them." by LaDonna Hoy, IOCP Executive Director Seventeen years ago, Shoe-Bob Fisher tapped on the soul of a whole community with a great idea. He had been watching people come and go from the IOCP Food Shelf and began wondering what they'd be doing for Thanksgiving. The great idea that came to him while he was trying out a new tent in his yard was what if he told his customers that he was going to sleep out in the cold in this tent for as long as it might take to raise $7,000 to provide a Thanksgiving dinner for 100 families who come to the IOCP Food Shelf. Crazy idea? Not so. Charmed by the idea, his customers picked up their shoes, made their donations, spread the word, and a week before Thanksgiving, a happy Bob came by with not $7,000 but $10…

The Edina Realty Foundation, which supports homeless related causes throughout Minnesota, western Wisconsin and Fargo, ND, has awarded a $2,000 grant to Interfaith Outreach and Community Partners as a part of an on-going commitment to the organization and its mission. A large portion of grant money came directly from the realtors of Edina Realty’s Wayzata sales office—as well as from Edina Realty itself. In addition, Edina Realty agents and employees hold events throughout the year that help raise additional contributions. A non-profit organization, the Edina Realty Foundation was created in 1996 to support organizations that help homeless children and families in the markets in which Edina Realty does business. “Our primary business is …

Three sisters from Shorewood have been sleeping outside in a cardboard box for almost two weeks. “It gets really cold,” 9-year-old Danielle Sewald said. The girls are on their second refrigerator box after their first was destroyed by rain during one of their first nights. “It caved in on us,” 11-year-old Debra said. “We had a broom holding it up.” Danielle, Debra and their 3-year-old sister Savanah are participating in the annual Sleep Out Campaign in support of Interfaith Outreach Community Partners (IOCP). The girls say they want to raise money to keep as many people as possible off Minnesota streets this winter. Each night they bundle up with sweaters, hats and thick socks, and stuff their makeshift bedroom with blankets, pillows and …

From crayons to calculators, local charity gives school supplies to kids in need.
An estimated 600 children collected free school supplies during this year's Back to School program spearheaded by Interfaith Outreach and Community Partners (IOCP). “The Back to School program helps low income students begin the school year on an equal footing with other students,” says Jeremie Mercer, co-chair of the program. Area residents, businesses and faith communities donated the school supplies. An estimated 100 volunteers then collected, sorted and distributed the school supplies. “I volunteer because these kids are our future,” Mercer explains. ”We have to at least give them the tools to be a successful student. The hard work is up to them.” IOCP serves families living in Wayzata, Orono, Minnetonka Beach, Long Lake, Plymouth, …
