Hockey Community Gathers on Lake Minnetonka to Skate for Jabs

The Jack Jablonski Junior Bronze Pond Tournament was held Sunday as part of the annual Hockey Blast weekend.

Max Jablonski rides shotgun in a dune buggy filled to its five-person capacity with kids from Benilde-St. Margaret’s. He wears a white hockey jersey tattooed with dozens of signatures as he and his pals putter around Excelsior Bay. On rinks nearby pond hockey games are being played in honor of his older brother, Jack—who was paralyzed last month during a junior varsity hockey game. “My brother is doing alright,” Max said. “He’s really touched and motivated by all the support.” In the driver’s seat next to Max is 15-year-old Mario Zattoni—one of the organizers of Sunday’s Jack Jablonski Junior Bronze Pond Tournament on Lake Minnetonka. Hockey Day MN to Be Dedicated to Jablonski Family

The annual event is part of Hockey Blast 2012.

Hockey Day Minnesota, the annual hockey showcase that features high school games held outdoors on Lake Minnetonka, will be dedicated to Jack Jablonski's family this year. Jablonski, a Benilde-St. Margaret's sophomore hockey player, was paralyzed by a hit he took in a junior varsity game on Dec. 30. This year's Hockey Day Minnesota is set for Jan. 21, and will feature three high school games out on Lake Minnetonka's Excelsior Bay. Later in the day, both the University of Minnesota men's hockey team and the Minnesota Wild will be playing at home. The Wild, FOX Sports North and Wells Fargo will combine to host an all-day telethon beginning at 9 a.m., raising money for the Jack Jablonski Fund. In addition, there will be an online auction …
