Hennepin County's Most Wanted Criminals for March 2013

Up to $1,000 is available for information that leads to the arrest of any of the suspects.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office is asking for help locating its most wanted criminals. All fugitives have felony warrants issued for their arrest. The Sheriff's Office reminds citizens to not approach or attempt to apprehend any of the suspects, as they should all be considered dangerous. A maximum $1,000 cash reward is available to anyone with information that leads to the arrest of any of the suspects. People with information on any of the fugitives are encouraged to call:

Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Expands Community Outreach Efforts

A new engagement team has been created.

Editor's Note: The following is a Hennepin County Sheriff's Office press release. The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office has created a new Community Engagement Team to expand outreach efforts in diverse communities and directly address public safety concerns of the residents. The Community Engagement Team will enhance the community policing program that was launched several years ago.  The team is comprised of three Sheriff’s Office personnel who will meet with community groups and provide public safety instruction.  Team members also provide training to members of law enforcement about working with diverse communities. “I am extremely proud of what we have already accomplished at the Sheriff’s Office in an effort to build trust among …

The following public safety summary of information from the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office Patrol Unit that includes highlights from Feb. 25 to March 3, 2013. In addition to the law enforcement services it provides throughout the county, the HCSO provides primary patrol services for the communities of Hassan Township, Greenfield, Medicine Lake and Fort Snelling, as well as the Hennepin County portions of Hanover and Rockford. The report was provided by the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office. Not all incidents are included in the summary. On Feb. 25, a groundbreaking ceremony was held at the future site of the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office 911 Emergency Communications Facility in Plymouth.   The new facility will ensure uninterrupted service for 911 calls, radio dispatch, and technical services. To begin digging with ceremonial shovels, Sheriff Rich Stanek was joined by Plymouth Mayor Kelli Slavik, Hennepin County Administrator David Hough, Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Mike Carlson, and Hennepin County Commissioners Jan Callison and Linda Higgins Jeff Johnson. Five Drowning Deaths Put 2012-13 Winter on Pace to be State's Deadliest since '06

Deaths in Stillwater and Lake Minnetonka; dozens of cars, snowmobiles and ATVs have broken through area ice this winter.

This winter season (November to April) is on track to be the deadliest on the ice in more than five years, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR). So far this winter, five people have died after going through the ice in Minnesota. A sixth person is missing and presumed drowned. In the 2006-2007 winter season, eight people died in ice-related incidents. Just last week a snowmobiler died after going through ice on the St. Croix River near Stillwater. Three of the state's five deaths—an infant, a man in his 30s and an elderly female—have occurred on Lake Minnetonka. “There could be several reasons why so many people have died this year,” said Kara Owens, DNR boat and water safety specialist. “It could be there are …

Sheriff: Violent Crime Down 37 Percent in Hennepin County

2012 had one of the lowest levels of violent crime countywide in more than two decades.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office is releasing statistics that provide an estimate of the county’s violent crime in 2012.  The statistics show that violent crime has decreased countywide by 37% from 2006 to 2012. 2012 had one of the lowest levels of violent crime countywide in more than two decades.   Violent crime is defined as: murder and manslaughter--non negligent, forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault. The definition is from the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program. Year-to-date, from 2011-2012, there was an estimated 3% increase in violent crime countywide. Sheriff Stanek on Guns: 'We Have An Access Problem'

Today, Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek joined Minneapolis residents and law enforcement leaders in a roundtable discussion with President Barack Obama to discuss guns and extreme violence. What I see him saying is basically get the mentally ill into the background check data base. That is where most of the problems come from and are not included in the background checks. Medical Examiner IDs Maple Grove Residents Who Drowned in Lake Minnetonka

Saturday afternoon accident near the Grays Bay Bridge claimed the lives of Harland Dietrich and Mary Ann Haram.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office has formally identified the two Maple Grove residents who drowned in Lake Minnetonka Saturday afternoon after their car broke through the ice. Harland Dietrich, 31, and Mary Ann Haram, 87, were trapped underwater for nearly an hour before divers could free them, according to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office. The two lived together on 9000 block of 98th Place North in Maple Grove. Their deaths are the second and third this season attributed to accidents caused by thin ice. Nine-month-old Tabitha Markle died last month after her family's vehicle broke through the ice near the Halstead Bay Bridge. Two Victims Pulled from Icy Waters of Grays Bay Were Trapped for 'Nearly an Hour'

The Sheriff’s Office Dive Team recovered the man from the submerged car and he was flown by helicopter to HCMC. A short time later, the elderly woman was recovered and transported by ambulance to HCMC. Both died Saturday evening.
