Quartet of Wayzata 'Destination Imagination' Teams Advance to State Tournament

Team of Wayzata High School students take first in their challenge at regionals and are favorites heading into the State Tournament in April.

Four of Wayzata's 17 Destination Imagination teams that competed at the Feb. 23 regional tournament at Maple Grove High School will advance to the State Tournament on April 20 at Champlin Park High School. The four teams advancing to start are as follows: The Psychedelic Hippie Kaleidoscopes (freshman and sophomore team from Wayzata High School), took 1st place in Challenge D – Change in Realitee with a raw score of 245. In this improvisational challenge the team must create a five-minute improvisational skit about life after a dramatic change and how the characters adapt to this change. They must also research different communication techniques and integrate them into their skit.  Using only white T-shirts and washable markers, team …

Wayzata Students Advance To Global Tourney

Four Wayzata Public School teams will advance to the global Destination Imagination tournament in May.

According to a Wayzata School District press release: Following the Destination ImagiNation state tournament April 14 at Jackson Middle School in Champlin, four teams from Wayzata Public Schools qualified to compete at the Global Finals Destination Imagination tournament May 23-26 in Knoxville, Tenn. The four teams competing in the Global Finals are the following: • The Permanent Markers from Oakwood Elementary took first place in the elementary level for Challenge C, Coming Attractions. Team members are Duffy Davidson, Conor Greenberg, Abby Kassmir, Mara McCollor, Elizabeth Page, David Sandall and Erica Svendahl. • The 7 Oodle Noodles from Oakwood Elementary took third place in the elementary level for Challenge E, Hold It. Westonka Students Unleash 'Imagination'

Teams had to build a small structure made of only wood and glue with a max weight of 50 grams for the girls and 25 grams for the boys during the Destination Imagination state finals.

Lorrie Ham Westonka's Secondary Level Destination Imagination Team earned a trip to the Global Finals after finishing in second-place at the state tournament last Saturday in Champlin. Ninth-graders Connor Born, Conner Demchuk, Zach Hoh, Nick Battis, Zach Martin and Trey Peterson—dubbed DI Terminators—advanced to the Global Finals, which will take place May 23-26 in Knoxville, TN. The Middle Level DI team also did very well at the state tournament, placing 5th of the 12 competing teams. Grandview sixth-graders Brandi Norum, Katie Ferrell, Sydney Hermanson, Megan Heins, Calli Battis, Audrey Woychick and Liz Thorson did well against the competition. Wayzata Students Advance To State D.I. Tourney

Seven teams from the Wayzata Public School District advance to state Destination ImagiNation tournament.

After the completion of the Destination ImagiNation West Metro Regional Tournament in February, seven teams from Wayzata Public Schools will advance to compete at the State Destination Imagination tournament Saturday, April 14, at Jackson Middle School and Champlin Park High School. Overall, six teams earned first place awards and two of the teams earned the Renaissance Award for outstanding design engineering or performance. The Permanent Markers, fifth grade team from Oakwood Elementary and The 7 Oodle Noodles, fourth grade team from Oakwood Elementary, earned first place and Renaissance awards.
