The following information was provided by Three Rivers Parks. Reservations are required. Call 763-559-6700 to make reservations for your pack, den, or troop Junior Girl Scouts: Geocacher Sunday, April 7, from 2:30-4:30 p.m., at Baker Near-Wilderness Settlement, Medina. Learn how to use a GPS, and then head to the woods to find hidden geocaches. Cost is $5 and this program is for ages 8-13. Reference activity number #230304-08. Join local scout leaders to learn more about scouting and how to get your son involved.
The Lake Minnetonka District Boy Scouts of America have a Cub Scout recruiting event tonight, Sept. 10, at Messiah Methodist Church in Plymouth. The event starts at 7 p.m. and is meant for boys in grades kindergarten through five. Schools include Gleason Lake, Oakwood, Birchview, Plymouth Creek and St. Bart's. Boys from other local area schools, as well as home schooled students, are welcome as well. This is your chance to get your son involved in one of the many packs in the area. Parents are encouraged to visit "Adventure is Calling" to find a unit specifically fit for their son and his geographic region. Messiah Methodist Church is located at 17805 County Road 6 in Plymouth. 117 Orono cub scouts participated in the annual event.
Wayzata's Redeemer Lutheran Church looked more like a speedway as local scouts gathered for the annual Pinewood Derby Feb. 11. Josh Mehaffey's car took first among fifth graders. "I painted black on the bottom of my car so when it crossed the line, the sensor read it right away," Mehaffey explained. "I also brushed off the wheels to keep them clean and fast." 117 cub scouts raced in the Derby, according to Derby Co-Chair Mike Jones. "We have amazing parent participation," said Pack Committee Chair Debbie Blum. The top three overall winners will be announced at the annual Blue and Gold Banquet on Feb. 23.
