A copy of the Storm Water Prevention Plan will be available at the front desk at Shorewood City Hall.
A public informational meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Monday, June 24, at Shorewood City Hall to review the city's Storm Water Prevention Plan. The city's Storm Water Prevention Plan is a document required by the state and federal government that outlines how the city will work toward reducing pollution in rainwater runoff. This plan will be reviewed at the meeting and comment received. Attendence from city residents is strongly encouraged, as the city seeks citizen input into the Storm Water Prevention Plan. Online registration for the 2013 Step To It Challenge opened April 1 and runs May 1 to May 28.
This year marks the fifth anniversary of the Step To It Challenge and the third year Shorewood has participated. The Step To It Challenge is a friendly, physical activity competition which began in 2009 with five Hennepin County community partners. Along with creating camaraderie and spirit, it’s a great opportunity for people of all ages to get moving after a long winter. The Minnesota Twins and KARE 11 join Hennepin County and participating communities as proud sponsors of the 2013 Step To It Challenge. Winning participants from each community will be recognized during a Twins game this summer. Work begins this week on sculptures that will be judged by those attending this weekend's Arctic Fever 2013.
Ever snow sculpted before? It doesn’t matter either way! Anyone can do it, so give it a try in Badger Park for Arctic Fever 2013. Individuals and groups are invited to reserve a snow cube and try their hand at snow sculpting. The event is free. Teams can begin their sculpture the weekend of Jan. 12 and work all week. Lights will be on in the field at night until 10 p.m. for team work. Sculptures must be completed by Friday, Jan. 18. The City of Shorewood will host an open house this Thursday, Nov. 15, to discuss with area residents the planned Smithtown Road Trail project. Shorewood is proposing a pedestrian trail from the City of Victoria on Smithtown Road to the Lake Minnetonka LRT trail at Eureka Road. Thursday's open house will take place at Minnewashta Elementary School and begin at 6:30 p.m. Residents will have an opportunity to get information about the proposed trail, talk with city staff and engineering consultants and give their feedback on the plans. The draft feasibility study and the Shorewood Trail Implementation Plane are available on the city's web site. Several Lake Minnetonka residents and organizations were among those honored at the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District’s annual “Watershed Heroes” awards celebration last Thursday. The awards recognize those who have made significant contributions to clean water efforts. The Lake Minnetonka Association Bay Captains received the watershed's Citizen Engagement Award for their advocacy of Lake Minnetonka's 25 bays. The City of Shorewood received the Innovation in Government Award for their proactive leadership in conservation work The Minnehaha Creek Watershed District has compiled detailed profiles of this year's award recipients. Information provided by the City of Shorewood The City of Shorewood is proposing a pedestrian trail from the City of Victoria on Smithtown Road to the Lake Minnetonka LRT trail at Eureka Road. Families and area residents are encouraged to give feedback on the trail at an open house event in the Media Center at Minnewashta Elementary on Thursday, Nov. 15, from 6:30-8 p.m. Representatives from the city will be in attendance to present the Smithtown Road portion of the city’s trail study, and to get feedback on needs of residents who attend the school or use Smithtown Road for walking and biking. The fourth grade will be hosting music concerts the same evening, so parents of those grades can visit the open house before or after their concerts…
