Maynard's hosted Oake on the Water Thursday evening, with musical guests "Dirty Heads" and Tristan Prettyman playing to a full patio of guests. A play off the Deep Purple song "Smoke on the Water," Oake on the Water began on Lake Minnetonka 10 years ago and returns often each summer to venues such as Lord Fletcher's, Bayside Grille and Maynard's.

A former American Idol contestent came to Lake Minnetonka yesterday for a free outdoor concert at Lord Fletcher's Old Lake Lodge. Haley Reinhart, who placed third in season No. 10 of American Idol, was the latest guest of Brian Oake and Cities 97's popular "Oake on the Water" summer concert series. The 21-year-old sang about four tracks during her approximate 15 minutes on stage. Reinhart's last performance on American Idol came back in January in front of judges Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez. Scotty McCreery eventually won Season 10 of the popular primetime reality show. Host of popular summer series says Lake Minnetonka does "it" as well as anyone.
It's been almost a decade since Cities 97 and DJ Brian Oake came to Excelsior to try out a new summer series. On Thursday, several hundred people welcomed "Oake on the Water" back to the Bayside Grille for the ninth season of lakeside broadcasts. Lakes throughout the metro area host the show each week from May through August, and Lake Minnetonka is a regular in the rotation. "(Lake) Minnetonka is just a good fit," Oake said. "Oake on the Water is about celebrating the summer lifestyle in Minnesota, which largely revolves around the water because there's so much of it, and Minnetonka does it as well as anybody."
