40 Years of Pop Music at Mound Westonka High School
For decades, students have gravitated to the Pop Singers for love of music and each other.
For decades, music has been the heart of the Mound Westonka High School Pop Singers, and this year the group celebrates 40 years of performing throughout the community. “Whether we’re caroling, performing at local festivals, or working at the farmers' market, it's hard for people to be upset when they have 30 kids smiling, singing, dancing, and snapping in front of them,” said Sarah Silverstein, a senior at Mound Westonka High School. The Pop Singers started in 1971, when former Mound Westonka High School Choir Director Bob Hotvet put together a new music ensemble. Since then, more than 400 students have passed through the group.
