Casting Call! Auditions Begin Soon for Wayzata Theatre Company's 'Once Upon a Mattress'

Auditions for Once Upon a Mattress are open to all student actors currently in grades six through 12 (2012-2013 school year).

Wayzata-based Blue Water Theatre Company has announced auditions for their upcoming production of the beloved classic musical Once Upon a Mattress. A somewhat snarky retelling of Hans Christian Anderson's The Princess and the Pea, Once Upon a Mattress is an ensemble show with dozens of entertaining roles and gigantic fun for actors and audience members alike. Wayzata-based Blue Water Theatre Company will present "The Secret Garden" at The Southern Theater in Minneapolis on Feb. 7, 8 and 9 at 7 p.m. and on Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. Based on the classic children's book by Frances Hodgson Burnett, "The Secret Garden" features music by Lucy Simon and book and lyrics by Marsha Norman. The original Broadway production premiered in 1991, and ran for over 700 performances. Blue Water Theatre Company will present Annie at the Eisenhower Community Center in Hopkins next month.

In celebration of the 35th anniversary of its original 1977 Broadway production, the Wayzata-based Blue Water Theatre Company will present one of the most beloved musicals of all time—"Annie!" A heartwarming story of a charming, optimistic orphan girl and the effect she has on those around her, all while set against the depression-era political backdrop of the 1930s, "Annie" is at once an enlightening social study and a family classic that is sure to put smiles on the faces of the entire audience. Kids in grades three through 12 can try out for local theatre company's presentation of "Annie."

Blue Water Theatre Company of Wayzata will be holding auditions for its upcoming production of "Annie" the week of Sept. 10. Male and female actors in grades six through 12 are invited to audition for the show. In addition, Blue Water is also inviting girls in grades three through five to audition to play orphans. Auditions will take place at Blue Water’s studio in Wayzata (1250 E. Blue Water Theater Company Showcases Talent of Rising Stars

Wayzata group's production in Minneapolis next monthwill feature more than a dozen local high school and college students.

Blue Water Theatre Company of Wayzata will be presenting the musical Company at Bryant-Lake Bowl in Minneapolis from August 22 through August 25. This production is directed by Hopkins High School senior Sam Weisberg, and features a cast of 14 high school and college students. These students represent Carleton College (Northfield), Cretin-Durham Hall, Emerson College (Boston), Hopkins High School, McNally Smith College of Music (Minneapolis), Tufts University (Boston) and Wayzata High School. Curtain Set to Rise on 'A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum'

Wayzata-based Blue Water Theatre Company kicks of three show run this Thursday in Hopkins.

Blue Water Theatre Company of Wayzata will perform three nights of Stephen Sondheim's musical A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. Performances are scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Eisenhower Community Center in Hopkins. All showtimes are 7 p.m. Tickets are $14 for adults and $11 for students and are available in advance online or at the door prior to each performance. Set in ancient Rome, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum tells the hilarious story of a slave—Pseudolus—who works to earn his freedom from his master. Widely regarded as one of the funniest musicals ever written, Forum is sure to be a fantastic night at the theatre.

Wayzata’s Theatre Company Has a New Home

With a new permanent space at the Wayzata Home Center, Blue Water Theatre Company hopes to expand its offerings.

Blue Water Theatre Company of Wayzata was founded in 2007 by local resident Charlie Leonard. It’s a non-profit community theatre for middle and high school students in the west metro, including those who live in Hopkins, Plymouth, Minnetonka and the Lake Minnetonka area.   The mission of Blue Water Theatre Company is to build and sustain a theatre community that will provide young actors with opportunities to perform, learn and experience theatre that is important, meaningful and life-changing. Blue Water has produced over twenty shows to date. Until recently, the company didn’t have a permanent rehearsal space.
