Turn Off Screens and Turn On Life
The American Academy of Pediatrics wants families across the country to "unplug" for one week.
The average American kid today spends more time every week with media or entertainment than in school or with their parents. That's a number that has got the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) concerned—prompting the group to designate this week as Screen-Free Week. The steep rise in kids’ use of electronics has West Metro parents concerned. “My kids spend way too much time with electronics,” says Karen Kasner, an Orono mother of three. The Kasners’ gadgetry includes Nintendo DS, Wii, iPad, iPod and personal computer. “They get sucked into a video game and lose track of what is going on in the world around them.
