Alex Plechash is running against Andrew Mullin and Bridget Anderson for one of two Wayzata City Council seats. Please tell us a little bit about yourself. Share something most people don’t know about you. In addition to being an Annapolis graduate and Marine Corps TOPGUN fighter pilot and former quarterback on a state championship Class 6A high school football team (larger than Wayzata) I also have an art background which most people don’t know. I received a scholarship to the Art Institute of Chicago between grade school and high school, and I was second chair viola in a symphony orchestra which toured Europe for a full month in the summer of 1969. So, it makes sense that I am on the board of the Perpich Center for Arts Education in …

The Wayzata Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a candidate forum from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at Wayzata City Hall. Candidates for Wayzata City Council and Mayor candidates are all expected to attend, and the forum is open to the public. The moderator for tonight's forum is Jeffrey Lambert, an attorney and the prosecuting attorney for the City of Wayzata. Lambert has moderated similar events for the city for many years. The Wayzata Chamber of Commerce requires that the moderator not live in Wayzata. Tonight's forum will follow the rules of the League of Women Voters. Although Mayor Ken Willcox is running for re-election unopposed, he will make a brief statement. Three candidates are vying for two city council seats this November. They …

To the editor: Wayzata is a unique city with a fantastic track record of qualified people that have been willing to step up and serve; keeping it a vibrant and well run city. Like all Minnesota cities, Wayzata’s city council is tasked to find solutions to the many issues that are part of today’s city government; finances will be the most challenging for many years to come. Alex Plechash possesses a very unique skill set that will help guide Wayzata with all of the issues it will face. I have had the pleasure of knowing and interacting with Alex as both a private sector businessman and in the community organization we both serve. Alex is a fiscally responsible leader with a no nonsense approach when solving fiscal issues. This is a …

To the editor, I’ve just recently learned that Alex Plechash is running for Wayzata City Council. I’m writing to enthusiastically endorse him to this position. Now I may not be the most qualified person to make this recommendation: I don’t live in Wayzata, I’m not very clear on Alex’s politics or positions on issues facing Wayzata, I don’t even know who he is running against. I have, however, had an excellent opportunity to get to know him in a unique way over the last several years that leads me to believe he would be a wonderful city councilman. Several years ago, I was charged with taking over the leadership class at Wayzata High School. As a part of the class curriculum, I thought it very important to include speakers with a strong …

To my fellow Wayzata residents, With the support and encouragement of my wife, I have decided to throw my hat in the ring for Wayzata City Council, and I am asking for your support. For those who know me well, this comes as no surprise. It seems most of my adult life has been about service and community—lots of them. When I moved to Wayzata in 1994, it was the twelfth different state in which I had lived, in addition to two deployments overseas, since graduating from Annapolis in 1975. However, Wayzata is now my permanent home. It’s a great place to live, and I want to help keep it that way. Most of my adult life has been spent in service of one type or another. First as a Marine Corps fighter pilot and air combat tactics instructor. Then…
