Orono High School Student Aces ACT Test

Trevor Knight's perfect score on the ACT test is but the latest is a series of impressive accomplishments both inside the classroom and out.

Orono High School senior Trevor Knight, son of Mike and Carine Knight, earned a top composite score of 36 on a recent ACT test. Nationally, while the actual number of students earning a composite score of 36 varies from year to year, less than one-tenth of 1 percent of students who take the ACT earn a top score.  Among test takers in the high school graduating class of 2012, only 781 of more than 1.66 million students earned a composite score of 36. The ACT consists of tests in English, mathematics, reading and science. Each test is scored on a scale of 1-36, and a student’s composite score is the average of the four test scores.  Some students also take ACT’s optional writing test, but the score for that test is reported separately and …

Orono High School Receives Prestigious Red Quill Legacy Award

The Orono High School Class of 2011 achieved the school’s highest-ever ACT composite score of 26.1.

Orono High School is among a select number of schools to receive the inaugural ACT Red Quill Legacy Award; OHS is among five schools in the Twin Cities and only 17 nationwide to be distinguished with the honor. “It is extremely gratifying to have our recent emphasis of increasing rigor at the high school affirmed by such a respected institution as ACT,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Karen Orcutt. The award recognizes OHS for repeatedly sustaining exemplary performance on the ACT and utilizing training, resources and data analysis provided by ACT to best prepare students to perform well on the standardized test, as well as in college.
