Grandview Middle School Joins U of M Effort to Prepare Kids for College

Grandview Middle School has been selected to participate in a partnership with the University of Minnesota to help kids reach their highest potential. Ramp-Up to Readiness™ is a college preparedness program designed to help Minnesota middle and high school students succeed at the next level—whether they choose a four-year college or university, or a technical or community college.

In April, Grandview participated in an official program launch on the University’s St. Paul campus, along with teachers, principals and counselors from 15 schools around the state who are joining 44 schools already implementing Ramp-Up to Readiness.

“We were excited to be selected and look forward to providing our students with more tools to be prepared for the challenges of high school and beyond," Grandview Principal Christine Zachow said. "We feel confident that we are preparing them academically, and this will help better prepare them with the skills and habits they need to be successful."

"Ramp-Up to Readiness focuses on the five pillars of readiness: academic, admissions, career, financial, and personal and social readiness," Zachow added. "Ramp-Up helps students advance toward meeting those standards as they progress through school.”

According to a growing body of research, by 2018 more than 70 percent of jobs in Minnesota will require some form of education past high school. The Westonka School District is excited to be part of this aligned effort to help Minnesota enter a new era—one in which all students are expected and supported to go beyond a high school diploma.
