Minnetonka Middle Schoolers Support Diabetes Awareness and Classmate

More than 600 hours of service went into Thursday's event at Minnetonka schools.

The efforts of more than 50 Minnetonka students, giving more than 600 hours of service will be seen today as they hand out 9,000 ribbons at Minnetonka schools.

The ribbons are in honor of Nov. 14– World Diabetes Day.

The students made a video that will be shown in all the classrooms before the ribbons are handed out (the video attached to this page). They also created a blog with photos and information about the project.

Many of the students involved attend school at Minnetonka Middle School West. They have been making ribbons on nights, weekends and even no-school days. They were recognized last month at We Day in front of more than 15,000 other students at the Xcel Energy Center.

Sarah and Andrew Morrow and their three daughters Aberdeen (who came up with the idea), Georgia and Virginia have been supporting World Diabetes Day by raising awareness in Minnetonka schools. Virginia, the youngest daughter, is a fifth grader at Excelsior Elementary and has Type 1 diabetes.
