Weekend Pick: 45th Annual Plant Sale at Minnesota Arboretum

Now in its 45th year, this popular sale is a great opportunity to shop for unique plants, hard-to-find varieties and University of Minnesota introductions.

The Minnesota Arboretum's Auxiliary Spring Plant Sale takes place this Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19, at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. Sale hours will be 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. both days. 

Now in its 45th year, this popular sale is a great opportunity to shop for unique plants, hard-to-find varieties and University of Minnesota introductions.  

Highlights include sections on shade perennials (including the 2013 perennial of the year—the lovely Variegated Solomon's Seal), sun perennials, ferns, rock garden perennials, daylilies, peonies, roses (including U of M introductions), hostas, woody plants (vines, trees and shrubs), prairie plants, ornamental grasses, herbs (including Herb of the Year "Elder"), fairy gardens and vegetables (including U of M introductions—Polaris and St. Cloud blueberries, Itasca, Mesabi and Winona strawberries and more).

Members of the Dahlia Society will be available to provide tips on growing dahlias and the Minnesota Water Garden Society also will provide pointers on and creating and maintaining water gardens.   

Create your plant sale shopping list early by picking up an official plant list at the Arboretum lobby desk for $1 per copy, or visit the Arboretum’s website www.arboretum.umn.edu to download a copy.

Gate fees apply during the sale ($12 adults; ages 12 and under free. Members free). However, sale customers receive a voucher good for one return visit to the Arboretum.

Sale proceeds benefit the Arboretum.
