Casting Call! Auditions Begin Soon for Wayzata Theatre Company's 'Once Upon a Mattress'

Wayzata-based Blue Water Theatre Company has announced auditions for their upcoming production of the beloved classic musical Once Upon a Mattress. A somewhat snarky retelling of Hans Christian Anderson's The Princess and the Pea, Once Upon a Mattress is an ensemble show with dozens of entertaining roles and gigantic fun for actors and audience members alike.

Auditions for Once Upon a Mattress are open to all student actors currently in grades six through 12 (2012-2013 school year). Auditions are scheduled to take place at the following times:

• Sunday, May 19 from 6:00-8:30
• Wednesday, May 22 from 6:00-8:30
• Friday, May 24 from 5:00-7:30

Actors interested in auditioning need only to show up at one of the sessions.

Advance registration is not required, but please be prepared to stay for the entire audition time. Actors do not need to prepare anything in advance; everything they need will be provided at the time of the audition.

Rehearsals for Once Upon a Mattress will begin Monday, July 1. They will run 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily (Monday through Friday) through Thursday, July 25.

There will be three performances of Once Upon a Mattress: Thursday, July 25; Friday, July 26; and Saturday, July 27—all at 7 p.m. This production will be directed by Charlie Leonard, with choreography by Barb Brauch and musical direction by Chris Larson.

This packet contains everything a student actor needs to know about the show, as well as an actor information form that must be filled out, signed by a parent/guardian, and turned in at the time of your audition.

Once Upon a Mattress originally opened on Broadway in 1959, and starred Carol Burnett as Princess Winnifred. This role was Burnett's big break in show business, and (as you all know) she quickly became one of the legendary performers of the last century. The production was revived on Broadway in 1996, with Sarah Jessica Parker as the star. There have also been a number of made-for-television adaptations over the years.
