White Hawks Wrestlers Earn First Conference Victories of the Season

The White Hawks have evened up their conference record at 2-2, and are 4-3 overall heading into the prestigious Hibbing Duals this weekend.

The Mound Westonka White Hawks wrestling squad picked up its first conference victories of the season, defeating Orono 50-15 and Delano 33-19 on Thursday, Dec. 20.  

“Overall it was a good night for us, and we were able to sit some guys who have match count issues, as well as get some of the JV kids some varsity matches,” said head coach Todd Munsterteiger.  

Freshmen Kwin Retterath and Noah Byers are two who have taken advantage of their spot duty, going 2-0 and 4-0 respectively at the varsity level this season.

“It’s great to have those guys waiting in the wings and being able to throw them in once in a while.  Every team needs depth, and these guys sure provide it,” commented assistant coach Eric Rodelius.

The White Hawks have evened up their conference record at 2-2, and are 4-3 overall heading into the prestigious Hibbing Duals this weekend. The White Hawks will face host Hibbing in first round action on Friday, Jan. 4 at 4 p.m., and will be placed in pools after that.

“We’re excited to wrestle some top-notch northern teams. It should be a great experience for the kids and get us thinking about our team goals for the end of the season,” added assistant coach John Wardlow.  

The Hibbing Duals will conclude on Saturday, January 5, with finals slated for 2:30 p.m.
