Westonka Wrestlers Open Dual Meet Season

The White Hawks will take on Delano and Orono on Thursday.

The Mound Westonka White Hawks wrestling squad opened the dual meet season with five duals over two nights, going 2-3 and picking up two section wins.  

On Thursday, Dec. 13, the White Hawks traveled to New London-Spicer, taking on the host Wildcats as well as the Annandale-Maple Lake Lightning in conference action. The White Hawks struggled in the first match against New London-Spicer, losing by 55-15 margin.

“New London-Spicer is awful tough, and they kind of took it to us,” said head coach Todd Munsterteiger.

The White Hawks wrestlers closed the gap against Annandale-Maple Lake, but still fell by a 48-26 score.

"We wrestled better against Annandale-Maple Lake, but with open weights we were giving up too many points,” added assistant coach Eric Rodelius.

 

The White Hawks hosted a quad on Friday, earning victories over section opponents Minnetonka and Buffalo, before falling to Chaska/Chanhassen in the final round. The White Hawks cruised to a 56-18 victory over Minnetonka, then topped Buffalo 42-26 for its first two wins of the season.  

“We wrestled well, and were able to get a few of the JV guys in there,” commented freshmen coach John Wardlow.  

The White Hawks battled a strong Chaska/Chanhassen squad in the finale, losing 37-23. Senior Tyler Hebig had an impressive night with three pins, achieving a milestone with 75 career pins.

The White Hawks will take on Delano and Orono on Thursday, Dec. 20 at Waconia High School in the last action before break. First round action starts at 6 p.m.
