Wayzata's Robertson Visits Pepperdine Today

Athletic senior says he's been in the weight room everyday to prepare for basketball at the collegiate level

Eric Robertson, a 6-foot-7, 185-pound senior forward from Wayzata, remains undecided about where he will be attending college in the fall. Robertson will visit Pepperdine Monday and has a trip planned to Florida Gulf Coast as he enters the final stages of pinning down a final selection.

Robertson averaged 20 points per game on a Trojan team that finished 21-8 this season, losing to eventual state champion Hopkins 85-65 in the Class AAAA, Section 6 finals. He scored in double figures in all but two games with four games of 30 or more points, including a season-high 35 points versus Robbinsdale Cooper.

Robertson averaged 14.8 points per game as a junior.

He played for the very successful Minnesota Pump N Run 17-and-under AAU team that won several top tournaments last spring and finished second in the Atlanta Celtics Invitational. They finished in the Sweet 16 in the Adidas Super 64 (played in Las Vegas) and Best of The Summer (played in Anahaeim) semifinals.

Robertson is an athletic wing who has a good outside touch. He doesn’t turn 18 until August, so some schools see him as a perfect redshirt candidate who could sit out his freshman season to gain more strength and still have four years of eligibility remaining.

Patch.com caught up with Robertson to find out the latest on his recruitment and a look back at his Trojan career.

You are visititing Pepperdine on Monday, right?

“Yes. I am going to Pepperdine for an official (visit). I get to tour the campus and play with the team.”

What are you hearing from them?

“They need a small forward. They haven’t offered me (a scholarship) officially, so I am going out there. They have offered me the official visit, so I am going to see where it leads from there and hopefully play well enough to get an offer.”

Where else are you looking?

“Florida Gulf Coast, Santa Clara and I am looking at a prep school, IMG Academy (located in Florida).”

Is it good to finally see a light at the end of the tunnel?

“Yes. It is nice. It has been a long process and everything. It’s nice to finally make a decision ”

Do you know which way you are leaning yet?

“No. We are going to have to see with the visit and I am going to take a visit to Florida Gulf Coast in a little bit.”

Those aren’t too bad of places to go, Malibu and Naples, Florida?

“Yes, I know. It’s perfect. I am excited about both of those schools. It should be fun going out there and checking it out.”

What things have you been working on to improve yourself as a player?

“Working on my left hand a lot. Dunking and dribbling on my left hand. Making my shot from beyond the arc more consistent and obviously, lifting. I am lifting every day. I have gained some weight here.”

Your brother Zach is a sophomore at Wayzata and is playing for the Minnesota Pump N Run. Have you been trying to show him some things?

“We work a lot together and do a lot of the same workouts. When I am working on my left hand, so is he. When I am working on my shot, he is too. We are always doing the same stuff and lifting together. It’s been good.”

When you look back at your time at Wayzata, what is going to standout as some of the highlights?

“Playing with my brother, first of all. I love playing with him. Going to the section finals. It didn’t turn out the way we wanted it to, but it was fun. My whole senior year was a great experience.”
