Wayzata wins five event championships at Section 6AA title meet on Friday

Wayzata will be well-represented at the state Class AA track and field meet after the boys and girls teams qualified four individuals and three relay teams at the Section 6AA championship competition that concluded on Friday at Hopkins High School.

The Trojans boys finished third at the sectional, logging 114.833 points, andwill send four individuals and three relay teams to state.

  • Nick Welshons, first place, high jump: 6 feet, 5 inches
  • Eric Roti, second place, 100-meter dash: 11.40 seconds
  • Adam Moline, second place, 800-meter run: 1 minute, 56.24 seconds
  • Josh Thorson, second place, 3,200-meter run: 9:21.63
  • 4x100-meter relay (Mitchell Underhill, Michael Borillo, Ryan DKae, Roti), fourth place: 43.06
  • 4x400-meter relay (Michael Smith, Brian Jarvey, Sam Lebewitz, Moline), first place: 3:17.98
  • 4x800-meter relay (Derek Peterson, Nathan Heintzeman, Jarvey, Moline), first place: 8:01.06

The Trojans girls will send four individuals to state after winning two 6AA titles.

  • Alayna Sonnesyn, second place, 1,600-meter run: 5:20.31
  • Taylor Wodnick, second place, 100-meter hurdles, 16.48
  • Alyssa Stoit, first place, shot put: 39-0
  • Kayla Timmerman, first place, discus: 121-11

The state meet will be held on June 10-11 at Hamline University in St. Paul.
