Wayzata's Solis Takes 3rd at State

The Trojans' senior topped last year's state champion in the third place match

Wayzata girls tennis senior Lucia Solis finished her Trojans career by winning third place in the Class AA state singles tournament on Friday.

Solis defeated last year’s champion, Rochester Century’s Kelsey Frechette, in a marathon 3-6, 7-6 (10-8), 6-3 match at the University of Minnesota Baseline Tennis Center.

Solis opened up the tournament with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Eagan’s Danielle Donahue, then topped Elk River’s Michaela Schultz 6-2, 6-4 in the quarterfinals. She then lost to eventual state champion, Century eighth-grader Jessica Aney, by a 6-1, 6-3 margin in the championship semifinal.
