Wayzata Girls Soccer Heads to Title Match

The Trojans beat top-seeded Lakeville North, faces Burnsville for the state championship

The Wayzata girls soccer team won a thriller on Monday in the Class AA state semifinals, topping Lakeville North 1-0 in a 5-3 shootout at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.

The win advanced the Trojans to the state title match, which will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday against Burnsville. Lakeville North will face Centennial in the third place game.

The fourth-seeded Trojans (17-2-2) couldn’t find the net during regulation or overtime against the previously unbeaten Panthers (18-1-2). But in the shootout, Wayzata found a way to come out on top.

The Trojans won the match thanks to making all five penalty kicks. Olivia Musser kicked the game-winner. Wayzata outshot Lakeville North 10-6.
