Wayzata Boys Take Second at State Track and Field Meet

Relay teams propel Trojans to podium.

Wayzata High School added some hardware to its trophy case over the weekend, as the boy's track and field team took 2nd place at the state meet.

The Trojans’ 43 team points were just four less than eventual champion Stillwater.

Strong relay performances propelled Wayzata to the podium. Derek Peterson, Nathan Heintzeman, Josh Thorson and Brian Jarvey took 2nd in the 4x800 relay, while Ryan Dkae, Sam Lebewitz, Jeffrey Borchardt and Michael Borillo placed 6th in the 4x200 event.

Michael Smith, Brian Jarvey, Sam Lebewitz and Adam Moline finished 2nd in the 4x400 race. Moline, a senior, finished his stellar high school career with a 2nd place finish in the 800-meter run.

The girls team placed 44th among the 67 teams in the state championship. Junior Kayla Timmerman notched a top-ten finish in the discus event, and Alyssa Stolt finished 5th overall in the shot put.
