Wayzata Girls Golf Leads Field After First Day At State
The Trojans' boys team is in third place, two shots off the pace in their quest for their third straight title
The Wayzata girls team finished the first day of competition at the Class AAA state meet with a six stroke lead. The Trojans are in first place with a 331 team score, while Stillwater Area finished the day in second with a 337 score.
Day 2 at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids begins at 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday.
Individually, New Prague freshman McKenzie Neisen is leading the pack with a score of 71.

For the Trojans, freshman Sarah Burnham shot an 80 on the day, good for a tie for eight place. Senior Taylor Fontaine finished the day with an 82 and is in 17th place, junior Liz Bauernfeind finished in 21st with an 83, and senior Taylor Darula finished 29th with an 86.
Seniors Emily Erickson and Becca Lewis finished tied for 42nd overall, each shooting an 89.

Boys sit in third place
The Wayzata boys golf team finished Day 1 of the Class AAA state tournament in third place with a team score of 301 strokes.
The Trojans are the two-time defending champions, but after Tuesday they trail Eden Prairie and Rogers at Bunker Hills in Coon Rapids. The Eagles and Royals are tied for first with team scores of 299.
The second day of competition begins at 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
Individually, Forest Lake’s Max Kelly leads the field with a round of 70.
Wayzata’s top performers are senor Tyler Lowenstein and freshman Jack Holmgren. Lowenstein and Holmgren each finished the day with rounds of 74 and are in a tie with 11 players for 11th place overall.
Junior Miles Death finished tied for 26th on the day with a 76, junior Zach Lowenstein is tied for 36th with a 77, junior Andrew Brandt shot an 81 and junior jack Higginson shot an 82.
