Wayzata Baseball Confounds Minnetonka Once Again

Trojans rally for second victory in as many tries against Skippers on Wednesday.

For the second time in three tries, the Wayzata baseball team up-ended No. 2-ranked Minnetonka to highlight the mid-week sports schedule in the Lake Minnetonka area.

Wayzata Baseball: Trojans 6, Minnetonka 3

Trailing 2-0 and 3-2, the Wayzata baseball team twice rallied against visiting Lake Conference rival Minnetonka to claim a 6-3 victory on Wednesday to improve to 5-9 overall and 4-7 in the circuit.

Starting pitcher Nate Heisick earned the win after scattering eight hits and three runs over five innings before Ryan Poppitz came on to pitch two innings and earn the save. 

Bryan Tabery and Jake Steinbach both scored twice, with Tabery also hitting a solo home run. Tabery, Steinbach, Poppitz and Paul Voelker each had one RBI apiece, with Voelker stealing three bases.

Wayzata Softball: Trojans 10, Minnetonka 0

The Wayzata softball team closed out its regular season with a 10-0 shutout of visiting Minnetonka on Wednesday to bring its final pre-playoff record to 12-5 overall and 8-4 in the Lake.

Next up for the Trojans is the Section 6AAA Tournament, scheduled to begin on May 23. Wayzata's opening-round opponent has not yet been determined.

Wayzata Boys Golf: Trojans Win Lake Conference Tournament

The Wayzata boys golf team carded a 285 to win the Lake Conference Tournament at the Ridges of Sand Creek on Wednesday. Individual statistics were not available.

Wayzata Girls Golf: Burnham Wins Lake Conference Tournament Medalist Honors

Sarah Burnham earned individual medalist honors to lead the Wayzata girls golf team to a first-place tie with Eden Prairie in the Lake Conference Tournament at the Ridges of Sand Creek on Wednesday.

The Eagles won the meet title in a tiebreaker after both teams recorded regulation scores of 334.

Wayzata Track And Field: Trojans Boys Win Lake Championship, Girls Fourth

The Wayzata boys track and field team won the Lake Conference championship meet title with 122 points on Tuesday at Hopkins High School; the girls came in fourth with 67 points. Individual results were not available.

Orono Boys Golf: Clark Leads Spartans To Victory

Dakota Clark earned individual medalist honors with a two-under-par 70 to lead the Orono boys golf team to a Wright County meet victory at Southbrook Golf Course; the Spartans shot 292 as a team.

Orono Baseball: Dassel-Cokato 11, Spartans 8

An 11-8 loss to visiting Wright County Conference leader Dassel-Cokato dropped the Orono baseball team to 4-10 overall and 3-10 in the circuit. Individual statistics were not available.

Orono Softball: Spartans Split Doubleheader

The Orono softball team split a doubleheader against visiting Watertown-Mayer, winning 7-1 and losing 3-1, to bring its record to 14-15 overall and 13-4 in the conference. Individual statistics were not available.

Mound Westonka Boys Golf: White Hawks Sixth At Stonebrook

The Mound Westonka goys golf team carded a 342 to finish sixth in a conference meet at Stonebrook Golf Course on Wednesday. Individual scores were not available.

Mound Westonka Boys Tennis: White Hawks 7, St. Michael-Albertville 0

The Mound Westonka Boys tennis boys tennis team defeated St. Michael-Albertville, 7-0, in its regular-season finale on Tuesday to improve to 13-2 on the spring. Individual results were not available.

The White Hawks begin the Section 2A Tournament on May 23 against a yet-to-be determined opponent.

Mound Westonka Girls Lacrosse: White Hawks 13, Breck 7

A 13-7 defeat of host Breck in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday closed out the Mound Westonka girls lacrosse team's regular season victoriously.

The White Hawks improved to 7-4 heading into the playoffs, with the Section 6 scheduled to begin on May 24 against an opening-round opponent that has not yet been determined.

Mound Westonka Softball: White Hawks 2, Delano 0

The Mound Westonka Softball team remained on top of the Wright County standings with two games remaining after defeating Delano, 2-0, on Tuesday. 

Individual results were not available. The White Hawks host Glencoe-Silver Lake and Waconia at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, respectively.
