Sports Roundup: Local Soccer Team Remains Unbeaten

Patch recaps recent action of local high school sports teams.

Top-10 ranked Wayzata girls soccer and volleyball teams both claimed mid-week shutouts to highlight this week's local athletic schedule.

Wayzata Girls Soccer

Playing its first game as the No. 1-ranked team in Class AA, the Wayzata girls soccer team blanked Holy Family Catholic, 4-0, on Tuesday.

Kylie Schwartz scored her team-high fourth goal of the season, with Maddie Eklin, Margaret Rocca and Kiana Nickel adding tallies in the win as goalkeeper Mara Dougherty notched two saves for her third shutout of the season.

Wayzata hosts No. 2-ranked Edina in a Lake Conference showdown at 5 p.m. Thursday. (results unavailale as of this posting)

Wayzata volleyball

The third-ranked Wayzata volleyball team swept eighth-ranked Andover on its home court on Tuesday to improve to 7-3 on the season.

Toni Okuyemi increased her team-leading kill total to 158 in the win, with Julia Doyle now at 405 assists and Lauren Houg at 146 digs.

Wayzata girl's tennis

Fifth-ranked Wayzata defeated Hopkins, 6-1, in a Lake Conference dual match on Tuesday. Individual statistics were not immediately available.

Orono vs. Mound Westonka boy's soccer

The Mound Westonka boys soccer team topped visiting Wright County Conference opponent Orono, 1-0, on a goal by Dayton Strong on Tuesday. 

White Hawks goalkeeper William Griffith notched his sixth shutout of the season in the victory as his team improved to 6-0, while the Spartans fell to 2-4.

Orono vs. Mound Westonka girl's soccer

Sophie Babo netted both goals as the Orono girls soccer team—ranked No. 4 in Class A—defeated Mound Westonka at home, 2-1, on Tuesday. The Spartans improved to 5-3 with the win, while the White Hawks fell to 2-5-2 with the loss. 

Orono volleyball

The Orono volleyball team fell to 5-3 on the season after a three-game sweep by visiting Delano (18-25, 18-25, 16-25) on Tuesday. Statistics from the game were not immediately available.

Mound Westonka volleyball

A three-game sweep by visiting Waconia (18-25, 12-25, 10-25) on Tuesday dropped the Mound Westonka volleyball team to 6-2 on the autumn. Individual statistics were not immediately available.
