Several Area Teams Preparing For Transition To Postseason

Regular season ending this week for multiple squads from Wayzata, Orono and Mound-Westonka.

The seventh week of the spring sports season began on Monday, with several Lake Minnetonka area teams now preparing for the playoffs.

Wayzata Girls Golf: Burnham Medals, Trojans Win

Sarah Burnham's one-over-par score of 37 earned her medalist honors and led the Wayzata girls golf team to a 177-185 win over Hopkins at the Oak Ridge Country Club on Monday.

Wayzata Baseball: Edina 8, Trojans 5

An 8-5 loss to visiting Lake Conference rival Edina dropped the Wayzata baseball team to 4-9 overall and 3-7 in the circuit standings.

Each team had nine hits in the game, with Brandon Smith and Blake Hallenberg both netting two hits apiece for the Trojans as Jake Steinbach had a home run and three runs batted in. Starting pitcher Paul Voelker took the loss for Wayzata.

Wayzata Girls Lacrosse: Trojans 14, Hopkins 9

The Wayzata girls lacrosse team improved to 4-8 this season with a 14-9 defeat of visiting Hopkins on Monday. 

Taylor Kramer scored five goals fir the Trojans with Amber Schwab contributing four goals to the winning tally.

Wayzata Boys Lacrosse: Benilde-St. Margaret's 13, Trojans 5

The Wayzata boys lacrosse team suffered a 13-5 loss to yet-undefeated state champion Benilde-St. Margaret's last Thursday to fall to 3-7 this spring.

John Michael Coon scored twice for the Trojans in the losing cause.

Wayzata Softball: Trojans 6, Eden Prairie 4

A 6-4 win at Eden Prairie on Monday clinched sole possession of second place in the Lake for the Wayzata softball team.

The Trojans improved to 10-5 overall and 6-4 in the conference with one game—at home versus Minnetonka on Wednesday—remaining in the regular season. Individual statistics were not available.

Wayzata Boys Golf: Trojans Ninth At Chaska Invite

The Wayzata boys golf team finished ninth at the Chaska Town Course Invitational on Monday, carding a 321. Individual results were not available.

Wayzata Boys Tennis: Trojans 4, Minnetonka 3

The Wayzata boys tennis team topped Minnetonka, 4-3, on Monday in a Lake dual match. Individual scores were not available.

Orono Baseball: Spartans Win One, Lose One

An eight-inning 11-10 loss to Hutchinson on Monday followed a 2-1 defeat of Zimmerman on Saturday to put the Orono baseball team at 4-9 overall and 3-9 in the Wright County Conference standings. Individual statistics were not available.

Orono Softball: Spartans Win, Lose By Scores Of 5-4

The Orono softball team remained one-half game off the lead pace of Mound-Westonka in the Wright County standings by defeating Glencoe-Silver Lake, 5-4, last Friday, but then saw its three-game winning streak come to an end with a 5-4 loss to visiting non-conference rival Minnetonka on Monday. 

Individual results were not available. The Spartans enter the final week of the regular season with a 12-4 overall record and an 11-3 conference mark with a trio of Wright County games left to play.

Orono Boys Tennis: Shakopee 4, Spartans 3

The Orono boys tennis team lost, 4-3, to Shakopee last Friday to fall to 10-2-1 on the season. Individual results were not available.

Mound-Westonka Baseball: Whitehawks 9, Hutchinson 7

A 9-7 defeat of Hutchinson on Friday kept the Mound-Westonka baseball team one-half game off the lead in the Wright County as the Whitehawks brought an 11-3 record into this week. Individual statistics were not available.

Mound-Westonka Softball: Whitehawks Hold On To Wright County Lead

The Mound-Westonka softball team was 11-2 this spring and continued to lead the Wright County after a 7-0 defeat of Hutchinson last Friday. Individual results were not available. 

A score for the Whitehawk's Monday game against Jordan has yet to be reported.

Mound-Westonka Girls Lacrosse: Whitehawks 7, Robbinsdale Cooper 6

The Mound-Westonka girls lacrosse team defeated Robbinsdale Cooper, 7-6, in a non-conference game on Saturday to improve to 5-4 this season.

Kayla Schultz and Kia Johnson each scored twice in the Whitehawks win.

Mound-Westonka Boys Tennis: Whitehawks Claim Two Shutouts

The Mound-Westonka boys tennis team earned two 7-0 victories against Fairmont and Redwood Valley last Friday and Saturday, respectively. Individual scores were not available.

Results were not available for Orono boys and girls golf, girls lacrosse; Mound-Westonka boys and girls golf.
