Senior Spotlight: Maggie Ellis of Orono

Name: Maggie Ellis

School: Orono High School

What sports do you play during the year?

Volleyball for Orono High School in the fall and Volleyball for Minnesota One from November to June.

Who was your favorite athlete growing up and why?

I loved watching figure skating as a kid, and Michelle Kwan was my idol.  She is so dedicated and works hard to earn all of her accomplishments. I had the chance to meet her at an event and she was so genuine and sincere.

How would you describe yourself in three words or less?  

Outgoing, energetic, compassionate

What is your favorite movie?

Any of the Harry Potter movies

Do you have a favorite sports memory that sticks out to you?

After we lost to Eden Prairie in our second sections game this year.  We all stayed on the court for at least 30 minutes just hanging out and celebrating a great season.

What’s an item you’d like to check off your bucket list in the next year?

Go to St. Ben's! It's been my dream ever since I was really little.

If you could visit any place in the world, where would you go and why?

Greece!  It is so beautiful and their culture is so unique and interesting. 

What are your plans next year (going to college? majoring in? playing sports?)

I'm attending College of St. Benedict in the fall and majoring in either Elementary/Secondary Education or Communication.  I'm not sure what I'll be doing as far as volleyball, but I'll be involved one way or another.
