Orono High School's softball team earned a trip to the 2013 State Softball Tournament Thursday afternoon with a 7-2 victory over Edina.
The Spartans, whose 13-2 regular season record secured a No. 1 seed in the Section 6AAA Tournament, breezed through the first three rounds of play.
Heading into the section final game against Edina, the Spartans had outscored their opponents 25-1 in postseason play and needed to lose twice to Edina to be sent home.
Orono's first state tournament game will be next Thursday, June 6, against Elk River. The Spartans have not faced Elk River this year.
