Postponements Plague Local Squads

Winter-like conditions force rescheduling of majority of Tuesday and Wednesday athletic schedules.

In the midst of a very un-springlike week, several local sports teams have been forced to postpone games scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, yet a few squads were able to squeeze their contests in despite the weather conditions.

Orono Girls Lacrosse: Spartans 12, St. Cloud 9

A 12-9 triumph over visiting St. Cloud on Tuesday improved the Orono girls lacrosse team to 3-0 on the season with a road game at St. Louis Park scheduled for Thursday night at 6:30 p.m.

Chatherine Fraser leads the Spartans with seven goals, and Jordan Nielson's six assists pace the squad. Shea Noerenberg has six goals and four assists through three games, with Eloise Hrusovsky notching five goals and three assists over the same span.

Mound-Westonka Baseball: Dassel-Cokato 2, Whitehawks 0

The Mound-Westonka baseball team mustered up just two hits in a 2-0 shutout loss at Wright County Conference opponent Dassel-Cokato on Tuesday. 

It was the first loss for the Whitehawks since opening day and dropped the team to 3-2 on the season. Individual results were not available.

Mound-Westonka travels to Hutchinson for a conference matchup at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Mound-Westonka Girls Lacrosse: Holy Family Catholic 19, Whitehawks 7

The Mound-Westonka girls lacrosse team fell to 0-2 on the season in a 19-7 loss to visiting Holy Family Catholic on Tuesday. 

Kayla Schultz leads the Whitehawks with four goals and two assists on the season, while Kia Johnson has three goals through two games.

Mound-Westonka travels to Wright County rival Buffalo in a 6:30 p.m. on Monday night.

Orono Boys Lacrosse: Spartans 18, Tartan 5

Orono's varsity boy's lacrosse team improved to 5-0 with an 18-5 defeat of visiting Tartan in a Minnesota Boys Scholastic Lacrosse Association matchup on Wednesday night.

Chandler Sampson's 21 goals lead the Spartans, with Alex Gross netting 10 goals and 10 assists over the five-game stretch.

Orono hosts Mankato at 6:30 p.m. Monday night.

Boys Tennis: Orono 6, Mound-Westonka 1

Orono defeated Mound-Westonka, 6-1, in a Wright County dual match on Tuesday. Individual results were not available.

Girls Rugby: Wayzata Wins, Orono Loses In Opening Week

The Wayzata girls rugby won its opening week matchup, 41-12, versus Hopkins while Orono fell 12-10 to Robbinsdale Armstrong. Individual results were not available.

Postponed/Cancelled Contests: Tuesday and Wednesday

Wayzata: boys golf vs. Edina (now May 23) and Hopkins (May 25), boys tennis vs. Elk River (April 21), softball vs. Eden Prairie (April 22) and baseball vs. Edina (April 23).

Mound-Westonka: girls golf at Baker National (now May 5), boys golf at Waconia-Island View (canceled), softball vs. Dassel-Cokato (May 12).

Orono: girls golf at Baker National (now May 5), boys golf at Waconia-Island View (canceled), softball vs. Watertown-Mayer (no make-up date).
