Playoff Time For Lake Minnetonka Teams

Postseason begins in earnest for local squads this week.

As the month of May nears its end, the postseason begins in earnest as softball and lacrosse playoffs begin and with baseball not far behind.

Wayzata Softball: Second-Seeded Trojans Begin Sectionals

After a 14-6 regular season, the Wayzata softball team begins the Section 6AA Tournament as the No. 2 seed facing seventh-seeded Robbinsdale Cooper on Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Richfield Middle School.

With a victory on Tuesday, the Trojans will play either No. 3 Richfield or No. 11 St. Louis Park at 5 p.m. Thursday at RMS.

Wayzata Boys Lacrosse: Sixth-Seeded Trojans Open Playoffs

The Wayzata boys lacrosse team earned the sixth seed for the Section 6 playoffs and open at home against No. 11 Robbinsdale Cooper on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

The Trojans closed the regular season with a 4-8 overall record and a 2-6 Lake Conference mark.

Wayzata Girls Lacrosse: Trojans Net Four Seed For Sectionals

After a 4-9 regular season, the Wayzata girls lacrosse team claimed a four seed for the Section 6 playoffs and open the postseason against 13th-seeded Buffalo at 7 p.m. Tuesday night. 

With a win, the Trojans will host either No. 5 Champlin Park or No. 12 Hopkins on Thursday night.

Wayzata Baseball: Trojans Drop Regular-Season Finale

The Wayzata baseball team lost its regular-season finale, 3-1, at Hopkins to fall to 5-11 overall and 4-7 in the Lake.

Nate Helsick drove in Maris Blanchard with the Trojans' lone run of the game in the top of the fifth inning, before the host Royals scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the sixth to clinch the game.

Up next for Wayzata is the Section 6AAA Tournament, set to run from May 26 through June 9. Seedings and opening-round matchups will be determined on Tuesday.

Boys Tennis: Trojans In Sectional Semifinals

The Wayzata boys tennis team advanced to the Section 6AA Tournament semifinals with a 7-0 defeat of St. Louis Park on Monday. 

Individual results were not available. The second-seeded Trojans host No. 3 Edina at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday. 

Boys Golf: Trojans Eighth At St. Cloud Invite

The Wayzata boys golf team finished eighth at the St. Cloud Country Club Invitational on May 19 with a score of 313. Individual results were not available.

Orono Softball: Spartans Kick-Off Sectionals Against Red Knights

The Orono softball team takes a 15-5 regular-season record into the Section 6AAA Tournament, with the fourth-seeded Spartans scheduled to take on No. 5 Benilde-St. Margaret's at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the playoff opener at Richfield Middle School. 

With a win on Tuesday, Orono will play either No. 1 Hopkins or No. 9 Edina on Thursday at 5 p.m. at RMS.

Orono Girls Lacrosse: Spartans Travel To Armstrong For Playoff Opener

Following a 6-8 regular season, the Orono girls lacrosse team opens Section 6 Tournament as the No. 11 seed and is scheduled to play at No. 6 Robbinsdale Armstrong at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The victor is slated to take on either No. 3 Holy Family or No. 14 Osseo on Thursday.

Orono Baseball: Dassel-Cokato 7, Spartans 6

The Orono baseball team lost, 7-6, at Dassel-Cokato on Monday to fall to 4-12 overall and 3-12 in the Wright County Conference standings.

Individual statistics were not available. The Spartans play at Annandale on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Orono Boys Tennis: Eden Prairie 7, Spartans 0

The Orono boys tennis team season came to an end with a 7-0 loss to Eden Prairie in the Section 2AA quarterfinals on May 19. Individual statistics were not available. 

Orono Boys Golf: Spartans Second At St. Cloud Invite

With a team score of 304, the Orono boys golf squad took second at the St. Cloud Country Club Invitational on May 19. Individual results were not available.

Orono Girls Golf: Spartans Third at Burl Oaks

The Orono girls golf team finished third at the Burl Oaks Country Club with a score of 370. Individual results were not available.

Mound Westonka Softball: White Hawks Advance In 5AA Sub-Section

The Mound Westonka softball team advanced to the Section 5AA East Subsection playoffs after defeating Fridley, 7-0, on Monday.

The White Hawks are scheduled to play at No. 3 seed Delano on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., with the victor advancing to the subsection final at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in Delano.

Mound Westonka Girls Lacrosse: White Hawks Travel To Chaska For Sectional

The Mound Westonka girl lacrosse team was given an 11 seed for the Section 6 playoffs and will open the tournament at No. 7 Chaska on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

With a win, the White Hawks will play either No. 2 Minnetonka or No. 15 St. Cloud Tech on Thursday night.

Mound Westonka Boys Tennis: White Hawks Open Sectional Wednesday

The Mound Westonka boys tennis team, seeded No. 1 in the Section 2A Tournament, opens the playoffs against No. 4 Saint Peter at Gustavus Adolphus College on Wednesday at noon. 

With a win, the White Hawks will play for the sectional championship at Gustavus Adolphus on Wednesday afternoon.

Mound Westonka Baseball: White Hawks Wrap Up Season On Thursday

Following a 10-7 loss at West Lutheran on May 20, the Mound Westonka baseball team entered the final week of its regular season with a 12-7 overall record and a 12-6 Wright County mark.

Results from a scheduled home game against Chanhassen on Monday were not made available. The White Hawks host conference leader Dassel-Cokato on Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Mound Westonka is slated to begin the sectional playoffs against visiting Minneapolis North at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31.

Mound Westonka Girls Golf: White Hawks Tenth In Conference Meet

With a team score of 441, the Mound Westonka girls golf team finished 10th in a Wright County meet at Burl Oaks Country Club on May 19. Individual statistics were not available.
